Just click on this link.

Came to my phone. Told me that HMRC are giving a payment of £285 as a gesture of goodwill.

Strongly suspect this is a scam.

Thoughts?

Of course it's a scam

BritWifeinUSA · 20/03/2020 21:36

You need to ask?

WrongKindOfFace · 20/03/2020 21:37

Definitely a scam. HMRC doesn’t send texts about tax refunds.

There are some absolute scumbags around.

Cheeserton · 20/03/2020 21:40

I'm really scared that you only 'strongly suspect'.

TotesGodsWill · 20/03/2020 21:40

Of course it’s a scam!

HMRC would never text you like that

Of course it's a scam.

There are people out there who are taking every opportunity to scam people at the moment.
Who take advantage of people who aren't aware.
Who will befriend people in need
The same mentality of people who break into food banks
Who steal hand sanitisers from hospitals.

Scum.

We received this the other day. We phoned them on their official number to check. We were explicitly told that HMRC will only ever contact through the post. It's a scam.

Patch23042 · 20/03/2020 23:08

You’d have to be dense or an ignoramus to believe this. It would’ve been all over the news if it were true.

Ihateselfishbastards · 20/03/2020 23:10

Totally click on it. HMRC in these circumstances will definitely text you to give free money!
