To think these parents should not be able to send their kids to school

Dad works in a takeaway
Mum does not work. No disabilities
They are sending their child to school as the dad is a key worker and this has been accepted.

To think this is not on and a lot of kids will be sent to school that actually don’t need to be there

I wonder if they may have other needs (vulnerable/ social services involvement or something like that?) It may be felt that
The child would be better off in school in this case. X

vitavita · 20/03/2020 20:03

I wouldn't be happy with that, I'm accepting of going into work and increasing the risk for my family to provide child care for the children of NHS workers, teachers, police etc but not takeaway workers - takeaways are not essential at all.

AhoyMrBeaver · 20/03/2020 20:05

I think the school probably knows a bit more about the situation than you do, and had made a sensible decision for reasons that are none of your business.

Dubdubdubtub · 20/03/2020 20:06

No this is DHs sister and husband so we know there is no social services involvement or needs.

DHs sister is basically a lazy cow to put it bluntly. They are living on an inheritance and she spends as little time as possible with her kids. she was horrified at the prospect of having them home and was gleeful when she realised they could go to school

Many lies have been told schools today. One key worker I know of has lied about being a single parent. People are selfish arseholes.

magicfarawaytrees · 20/03/2020 20:07

To be honest if that’s true then it’s probably best they are in school.

schafernaker · 20/03/2020 20:09

😔 schools have no way of checking parents jobs. I would be most frustrated if I knew I was leaving my family to look after other people’s kids in this situation. Hopefully the kid will get bored and convince them to let him stay home.

GrumpyHoonMain · 20/03/2020 20:10

It doesn’t matter how bitter or jealous you feel about it, the fact remains that they aren’t doing anything wrong per the government policy.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 20:12

Well with supermarkets lacking in food, people need takeaways! So yes I’d say someone providing food was key really

You don’t have to like it, but it’s just tough really 🤷🏻‍♀️

PianoTuner567 · 20/03/2020 20:14

This

Dubdubdubtub · 20/03/2020 20:16

Yes he may be key but the government need to bring something in to say if there is a stay at home parent kids need to stay home.

As for being jealous me and husband are both key workers. DH is a teacher who is still going in and I am a carer for a vulnerable disabled young girl we are working it between us to keep DS at home.

Our school is checking with employers as to whether parents are key workers or not. Had one apparently say they should be a priority because they work in a college. Luckily our head is being very proactive in not allowing any piss taking so we can provide care for those that need it.

Frigginella · 20/03/2020 20:17

Schools are contacting employers for confirmation they are playing a critical role. I also suspect social care may be involved.

Dubdubdubtub · 20/03/2020 20:18

Can I just add to that last post I know DH and I are lucky we can work it between us as I know a lot of parents can’t possibly work it so kids are staying at home.

One of my friends is hoping to still send her child in as they work in a key area but own their own company and can easily do it from home! Makes me so cross!

Tobermory · 20/03/2020 20:20

Situations like this give me the rage. In school today I have heard of similar stories of parents who cba to look after their children and want me to do it for them. I ‘know’ that there aren’t other factors which would make their claims valid. So I’m leaving my family, DH working for home as well as supporting the 2x D.C. with home learning and going to work in an incubator. A place where because of the nature of their parents jobs the risk of the virus being around is much higher. And it turns out I’m also doing it for those parents who just want the free child care.
Such selfish attitudes.

Ellapaella · 20/03/2020 20:21

Our head told us today that one parent insisted she was a key worker because she worked in a nail bar Confused

Scottishgirl85 · 20/03/2020 20:21

There are quite a few similar cases in our class... it's really frustrating. I have no idea why the government didn't have a 2 parent rule, madness.

Sunshinedaffodil · 20/03/2020 20:21

You will always get people people trying the take the piss in a crisis

Greggers2017 · 20/03/2020 20:22

There was an over subscription at our school. We had to give our jobs and employees numbers so they could then contact them and a decision had to be made on who's job was more important. My children didn't get a place.

Patch23042 · 20/03/2020 20:22

There will always be scumbags and profiteers. Like the spivs during the war, or those folks who pretended to be affected by Grenfell.

Dubdubdubtub · 20/03/2020 20:22

It’s just seems some parents are doing everything possible to keep kids at home when it really difficult and others who could easily keep kids at home are trying everything to sent them to school

OP posts:
TestingTestingWonTooFree · 20/03/2020 20:24

In our Local authority all parents have to be key workers to get child care.

vitavita · 20/03/2020 20:26

others who could easily keep kids at home are trying everything to sent them to school

Yes, like the parent who complained about having to "look after the fucking kids"

maddening · 20/03/2020 20:27

Someone I know is a key worker as works in a pharmacy but cannot get childcare for their child (nursery age) as her husband is not a keyworker - definitely a lack of consistency in the way the rule is being implemented.
