'Cheers' to this week

A friend who works at head office for a main super market and is therefore 'soooo busy' this week has just sent round a video of her and her husband 'cheersing' champagne.

Celebrating getting through a very busy work week.

I want to scream.

What are you celebrating? Death? Unemployment?

We have friends whose jobs are at risk and others who are very lonely as they live alone.

This is SO selfish and smug, right?

Cheers to your friend.

Espoleta · 20/03/2020 18:39

She probably feels that’s she’s accomplished a lot this week and helped many people out (which is true).
I’ve had a week from hell, so yes I’m celebrating getting to the end of the week with a drink (and I speak as someone who is highly likely to loose my job in the next two weeks...)

GrannySlippersAreAStepTooFar · 20/03/2020 18:39

Oh pipe down Mrs Judgey Pants. Hmm

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 18:40

I don’t see the issue tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️ Then I’m drinking champagne why because I can and it feels like the world is ending so why the fuck not!

oldbeforem · 20/03/2020 18:41

Ok, guess I'm alone then

Just found it insensitive.

Celebrate privately but no need to send it to others less fortunate.

Please send her a thank you and a cheers from me.

I appreciate everything the key workers are doing for us all.

I hope your 'friend' enjoys her champagne.

ViciousJackdaw · 20/03/2020 18:42

If she's at head office, I bet she's had one fuck of a week. She'll have been in early and home late thanks to corona virus and the panic buyers. She deserves her drink and I hope she bloody well enjoys it.

Teddypops · 20/03/2020 18:42

I'm raising a glass to myself for getting through the weekend without a mental breakdown!

FlyFishingg · 20/03/2020 18:44

Good for her, I'm sure she deserves it after this week. I'd hate to be working for a supermarket right now.

She deserves it. Cheers to her - (you misery guts)

Fairyliz · 20/03/2020 18:46

DC’s (adults) are both coming home for the foreseeable future tomorrow as they are both working from home.
I am intending putting a bottle of champagne DH got for his retirement to chill.
We need to have a celebration that we are alive and love each other.
Would you say that was distasteful when other people are dying or just making the best of a bad situation?

OlaEliza · 20/03/2020 18:47

I think supermarket workers are absolutely entitled to a drink after this week. Wtf is wrong with you op? Unless this is a pisstake??

Goawayquickly · 20/03/2020 18:48

I bet she’s had a helluva week (like so many) I’d be happy to see my friend enjoying her champagne.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 20/03/2020 18:51

Even though there have been bare shelves and aisles, supermarkets have done a damn fine job under the circumstances. The staff are working very hard, some have been verbally abused by the general public and have had to cope with customers brawling in their aisles.

You have no idea what may have gone on behind the scenes. Your friend and her husband may well deserve to celebrate and feel a great sense of achievement. Just because lots are suffering, doesn't mean everyone has to be dragged down into a pit of despair.

They obviously aren't celebrating deaths or people losing their livelihoods. YABVU.

hairyxmasturkey · 20/03/2020 18:53

I think the supermarkets have had an immensely difficult week. So I join in cheersing to your friend!

oldbeforem · 20/03/2020 18:57

Ok, I get it!

One of the friends in the group's dad is in hospital with suspected Covid 19 and another's husbands job is at risk.

I get it's been a tough week but celebrate in private. It doesn't match the tone of others situations and felt insensitive.

I've been outvoted, and it's noted. I will shut up now.

She just have been fun off her feet

Cheers op friend!

BeetrootRocks · 20/03/2020 18:57

Run not fun

Dishwashersaurous · 20/03/2020 19:51

Given the specific group- assuming she knows that detail- than actually really insensitive

Runkle · 20/03/2020 22:26

I'd raise a glass to her myself. My partner works in retail and its fucking thankless. They can't work from home, social distance etc.

oldbeforem · 20/03/2020 22:36

@Runkle head office WFH marketing role
