Friend cancelled her toddler’s birthday due to Coronovirus, do we still give the presents?

You all are so lovely, thank you for your wisdom and kind guidance, even the harsher remarks all gratefully received and taken onboard. What would the socially inept like me even do without Mumsnet? Thank you ladies and gents.

Well is it the norm to give a present for the birthdays you aren’t going to?

If my DC are invited to a party and we decline the invite, then as a general rule we don’t give a present, unless the birthday child is a relative or close family friend.

If we’ve accepted the invite and then can’t go because of a last minute cancellation due to illness, then we still give the present.

One of my DC was due to go to a party next weekend. It’s obviously cancelled now. The birthday child will presumably be upset about this. I’ve asked his mum for their address so I can post the present, I’d already bought it anyway, and it might make him feel a bit less sad about missing out on his party.
