Friend cancelled her toddler’s birthday due to Coronovirus, do we still give the presents?

What is the aibu?

PatchworkElmer · 20/03/2020 19:58

We’ve had 2 children’s parties cancelled, and will be dropping gifts off outside.

julybaby32 · 20/03/2020 19:59

Yes. providing you can get it to her without contact, eg drive round to the house or walk if you can do so without contact with others.

Nonnymum · 20/03/2020 20:00

Yes, just drop it round.

bloodywhitecat · 20/03/2020 20:02

I am in a similar position, my baby (I foster) didn't go to family contact this week and won't go for the next four weeks due to social distancing but we have baby's Mother's Day gift here. I will keep it until they see each other again.

feelinguseless101 · 20/03/2020 20:02

Yes. Leave it on the doorstep or post it.

Why wouldn't you?

CeibaTree · 20/03/2020 20:04

If you bought it for the child why are you asking if you should give it to them - seems like a total no brainer to me!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 20/03/2020 20:05

I’d drive round, leave the present outside her door and text her to let her know once I was in the car.

Poor child having a birthday atm, sad times

revelsandrose · 20/03/2020 20:13

My ds had his birthday party cancelled this week and people have still passed presents, I would be quite upset if he had no party and no presents, he is too little to understand. If you have already bought it I'm sure the family would really appreciate you contacting them to say you will quickly handover or leave on doorstep.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 20/03/2020 20:17

Yes

nonicknameseemsavailable · 20/03/2020 20:22

I don't understand why you wouldn't give the present. My daughter is going without her birthday party this year because of all this, she won't see any of her friends and noone has given a present in advance so I doubt she will get presents this year either other than from us. It is really quite a sad birthday as a result.

TypingError · 20/03/2020 20:25

Of course. I can't understand why you'd ask.

CheeseCrackersAndWine · 20/03/2020 20:28

100% yes! The poor child has just had to have their birthday party cancelled, give them the present... Nice to hear some stories of people taking the social distancing seriously rather than selfishly continuing on with no thought for others!

GameSetMatch · 20/03/2020 20:29

Yes, I would it’s disappointing enough not having a party never mind no gifts

Blueblackrose · 20/03/2020 20:30

Yes - we are doing this this weekend for my dd friend who has to cancel their party.

vitavita · 20/03/2020 20:31

Of course you do, it's no fun having a birthday at the moment.

lovemelongtime · 20/03/2020 21:40

Why wouldn't you?? Poor kid

TeeniefaeTroon · 21/03/2020 00:01

My son was supposed to be going to his friends party on Sunday. I'm going to drop her present off to her tomorrow. The party has only been postponed until a further date as it had been paid for, I won't give a present then. Some parents will probably do the opposite.

TeeniefaeTroon · 21/03/2020 00:03

Also, I didn't actually buy the present until after the party was cancelled. It's still her birthday x

florababy84 · 21/03/2020 00:14

Are you feeling resentful that you spent money on presents and then they canceled at short notice?

They 100% did the right thing, you know.

The kind and generous thing to do would be to deliver the present or get it to them some other way.

If you didn't give it to them, I don't think they'd be offended and you could save it for a future toddler's birthday party.

RainbowMum11 · 21/03/2020 00:30

Yes - it's really hard for the kids who have had things cancelled so a present will be nice for them x

eaglejulesk · 21/03/2020 00:33

Of course you still give the gift - it's only the party that is cancelled, not the birthday.

Slinkymalinky1 · 21/03/2020 01:18

Of course

Designerenvy · 21/03/2020 01:19

100% yes

LemonSqueezy0 · 21/03/2020 07:10

Don't be tight. Hmm
