I don't know who needs this, but I did!

it struck me last night that it's my DDs 7th birthday in 3 weeks and I haven't got her anything! It's also my MILs the week after but she'd probably be a bit more understanding if I didn't have anything to give her!

The non essential shops could be forced to close in the coming weeks, get your upcoming birthdays sorted ASAP

online ordering from any local small retailers, etsy, larger retailers and amazon etc will be fine. I'd class going physically shopping for items as non essential and to be avoided

Office365 · 20/03/2020 10:20

I have ordered online from Smyths, as I am isolating...but I don't believe it's unthinkable that couriers could become thin on the ground or only tasked with "essential" runs.

Both my kids are beginning of May. I ordered all their stuff a couple of days ago online and it's all arrived. More worried that my financial situation won't allow for birthday spending by then. I've got them far less than normal but will do something special when everything has stabilised

Office365 · 20/03/2020 10:34

Yes beauty, that has been my thinking too 💰
No idea how long this is going to go on for either, will probably sort cards for everyone all the way to July to be safe (and organised)
Was thinking about dds cake too, I have no flour in at the moment. Will maybe try to source an ice cream cake if I can! Can you stick candles in a Vienetta?

It's my 30th in May and I'm not expecting a thing.
Thankfully my 4 year olds birthday isn't until Sept.

isitsummertimeyet · 20/03/2020 11:07

just ordered my 4 year olds yous from amazon and smythes though his birthdays still 2 and half weeks away, by then smythes might be closed for the foreseeable and who knows what will happen with online stores.. better to be safe than sorry..

hopefully this all stabilizes quickly and we can get back to normal

MegaClutterSlut · 20/03/2020 11:24

It's my sons 18th birthday next Sunday, that's all gone to shit. Got all his presents though thankfully

Office365 · 20/03/2020 11:31

Oh Mega, I'm so sorry ☹️ hopefully you can still celebrate it a bit, somehow!
We were supposed to be at a 21st tonight. We had to decline it at the start of the week due to us isolating but just heard it's now been fully cancelled.

My dd is 4 at the end of March. We were going to visit family and have a small party there. All been cancelled. Instead we will have a tea party at home and play games in the garden depending on the weather. I have ordered all her presents and wrapped them all just waiting on her dad to order her a bike. I plan to do the same and order my son's birthday presents in advance. His birthday is at the end of July by which point I hope life returns to normal but just in case. I know it isn't really important in the grand scheme of things but both toddlers are just getting to the age where they know what a birthday is so I want to make it special for them.

Marmite27 · 20/03/2020 11:34

DD2 is 10th April, I’ve got her a few new bits, but it’s mostly her sisters old stuff she’s getting. At 2 I think we’ll be ok.

I have my neice and nephews presents for the end of the month, but not cards.

We have cards for my mil for end of March, but no present, and neither for my mum just after DD2. Plus no Mother’s Day gift or card.

Marmite27 · 20/03/2020 11:35

No birthday paper either, but I have gigantic rolls of Costco Christmas paper left over!

Office365 · 20/03/2020 11:37

I've just been on moonpig and pre ordered a few cards for the most pressing birthdays, to be delivered direct, but I'm not really the type to usually spend £4 on just one card 😕 but needs must at the moment.

Office365 · 20/03/2020 11:39

Paper! Yeah, I may be on Christmas paper too 🤣 oh well, that'll be the least problem I suppose.

I bought Easter eggs yesterday just in case we're in full lockdown by then. Didn't want DC to have to miss out.

Fruitbatdancer · 20/03/2020 11:41

DS is 6 early April. I just had to cancel his party. Awful. It’s the bit that made me cry. I’ve started some amazon shopping and in the supermarket got candles/ banners/ balloons so I’m ready. Worrying about/ cake ingredients so might have to be creative! I’ll make it outing haribo if I need to!

AlfieandAnnieRose · 20/03/2020 11:49

Yes also been thinking about this. My son will be 4 at end of April, we were going to go to CBeebies land and stay at the hotel, thankfully hadn’t booked it yet. I’ve also been thinking I need to buy him a present, can’t think what yet! Or what we will do inside the house to make it special 🤔

Samcro · 20/03/2020 11:51

dd's birthday is in 2 weeks. i have all the stuff, but how i get it there i don't know. the care home she is in is in lock down.
I am sure we will be able to sort some kind of hand over ((prays))

mummumumumumumumumumum · 20/03/2020 12:07

i went and took, birthday, anniversary, Easter and mothers day cards and presents etc to my parents this week before they locked down, hopefully they will be a light relief amongst the boredom and fear in the coming months

Beebumble2 · 20/03/2020 12:11

Jacquie Lawson website sends lovely animated e cards. These a one off charge and then you can send as many as you want for a year.
Really useful if you forget an occasion, or just want to cheer someone up.

Minecraftmadness · 20/03/2020 12:34

I booked tickets to see the cursed child in May for my daughters birthday. Sad I’m hoping if it’s not running that they’ll let me change date rather than rebook!

Beautyoftheirdreams · 20/03/2020 13:06

You can make cakes using box mixes and oil as a replacement for egg. If you Google box cake without egg it gives lots of replacement ideas, you can buy ready made frosting too. You can freeze brownies and have them with ice cream

Maisieme · 20/03/2020 14:12

I gave my children and grandchildren their April birthday presents and Easter eggs to take with them last Sunday. After that we went into isolation. We did Mother’s Day a week early. So glad we finished on a happy occasion as I guess we won’t see them for some time now. Thank goodness for FaceTime.

mummumumumumumumumumum · 20/03/2020 14:42

@Minecraftmadness we have tickets for may too. they have said it isnt going ahead so to go onto the website to rebook or cancel :(

MotherWol · 20/03/2020 14:45

I’ve just ordered some books over the phone from a local independent book store for DH’s birthday in early April. They’re coming in the normal post not via courier, so I’m hopeful they won’t be affected.

PenguinsOnParade · 20/03/2020 14:46

It's my DM's birthday soon and there's a big family meal out planned. My DPs are still going ahead with the plan unless the restaurant closes. They're not listening to me when I say it's not safe, especially as I would need to get on a bus to get to it as well. Angry
