To ask how much a scratch repair is?

I have just scratched someone’s car Sad it has taken off the top layer of paint but hasn’t gone all the way down to the metal. Does anyone have any idea what it will likely cost to fix?

Depends..if panel needs replacing could be a lot. Go via insurance

Hingeandbracket · 20/03/2020 09:58

When I backed my car into my own fence it was £250 although mine sounds a lot worse and they touched up a couple of other scrapes too :)

JasonBrun · 20/03/2020 10:00

Usually the price is per panel, if the scratch is only over one panel perhaps £250-300.

IdiotinaMini · 20/03/2020 10:03

Thank you for the replies! The scratch is about 4 inches long and only on one panel, so hopefully not more than £300?

Ring a smart repairer, I'd expect it to be about £100.

IdiotinaMini · 20/03/2020 11:40

Thank you! Fingers crossed...

I got one done recently for £170 which was quite deep.

species5618 · 20/03/2020 14:37

Without seeing the damage it's hard to estimate - there may be an accompanying slight dent for instance especially if the scratch is in the middle of a door panel.
If the other party agrees then try to get a quote from someone like Chips Away. Should be £150 to £175

IdiotinaMini · 20/03/2020 14:49

It was on the rear bumper. I had a really good look and took photos and there is no sign of a dent at all. Hopefully it’s not worse than it looks Sad

My neighbour reversed into my car. It cost £250 to repair the scratch and the gouges into the plastic.

goldengranny · 20/03/2020 17:07

People will try to rip you off and ask you to pay cash more than the cost of the repair sometimes, to avoid involving insurance.

RowenaCoxwell · 20/03/2020 17:30

Picked my car up today from the spray shop, it was £250 for about 8inch scratch down to the metal. First place we tried though quoted £450.

Adserpsus · 20/03/2020 17:33

Just paid for mine to be repaired - few light scratches and one slight chunk out £400 - it didn’t look bad at all. First quote was £1000 (manufacturer approved place)!
My excess is £650 so I had to pay all of it, I probably would’ve paid the higher quote to save my no claims though.
Someone did it to my car in a car park and didn’t leave their details.

Trentmum · 20/03/2020 18:02

I’ve just had one done, £250.00.

Tunnocks34 · 20/03/2020 18:11

Cost my £450 for a small scratch on my door.

Alfiemoon1 · 20/03/2020 19:38

Depends on the paint finish I’ve scratched my car and because of the paint - it’s just red to me but apparently it’s a 3 stage paint job it’s going to cost £450! If I had done the same on my old car it would be £100

WeAllHaveWings · 20/03/2020 19:44

The problem with bumpers, especially plastic ones, is they can have internal damage impacting their effectiveness even after a small bump.

I ran into the back of someone years ago, their bumper didn't have a mark, but when it went to insurance it genuinely required a new bumper.

Wynston · 20/03/2020 21:07

And there was me thinking a scratch and dent adds to the character!!!
