To think that, if it was a naked woman

Pictured in a shopping trolley, with men sharing it saying 'time to panic buy', it wouldn't be okay.

So why is it ok for women to do that with a picture of a naked man?

I'm not going to share the photo, I'm sure many of you will have seen it on social media, but hopefully even if you haven't there enough info here to make a call.

I'm not overly concerned or all bent out of shape about it, honestly I'm not. I'm not sure what I wrote that is giving that impression, to be honest.

I was just curious as to what others thought.

I can't give an opinion 'cos I haven't a clue what you're talking about !

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 20/03/2020 10:31

Can you post the photo?

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 20/03/2020 10:34

By 'it wouldn't be ok' I meant that many people would complain. Not that nobody would defend it.

I'm not sure why you don't see the difference.

I have no idea why you think this is what women need to worry about, do you think no matter how shitty men treat us we should always be sweet and polite and smiley?

I mean, what? Can you read what I've actually written? I haven't said women need to worry about it. And I haven't once suggested that women should put up with shit. I mean, where is this coming from? I'm really confused by your response.

Or could it be that some women have been so brain washed into being fine with their partners wanking over abused women on the internet or getting lap dances in strip clubs, that they really don’t see the big deal with this?

It could be that. That's actially an interesting and valid point. Thank you.

Can you post the photo?

I'll pass. I can't really post saying I don't think it's OK to share, and then do exactly that! Sorry Smile

I thought the same when I saw it.

Intelinside57 · 20/03/2020 10:48

I've seen it Op and yes, you're right, if it was a naked woman in the shopping trolley and men making the comments that some women are there would be an outcry.
It's not difficult to picture - naked man in shopping trolley photo with comments about taking him home as stocking up for self isolation. Many comments about how hairy he is, how uncomfortable he must be in the trolley, how some people would want to bulk buy... you get the picture.
From the perspective of the "older generation" I sometimes can't decide where humour stops and starts, and whether it's wrong to post the naked men in a joke photo and whether it would be that wrong to post a similarly discreet photo of a naked woman... but whatever the answer is to that I think that double standards are never right.

You could probably guess the gist of what the picture was without seeing it and yet as usual the MN nasties weigh in against the Op instead of having a civil conversation. I despair.

TerrorWig · 20/03/2020 10:49

I have no idea what you’re talking about, but if it’s a naked man modelling rather than a candid snap then I don’t care.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 20/03/2020 10:58

can easily imagine this being shared by women (the ones who have sparkly wine glasses and “time for Prosecco!” signs in their kitchen)

gingersausage · 20/03/2020 11:00

@CarolHasAnotherUTI you should have known a post like this would bring out the hard of thinking hun brigade on AIBU. You should have posted it somewhere you could have got a bit more discussion and critical thinking, because all you’ll get here is the dumbo “oh I want to see it” and “nothing wrong with naked men phwoar” comments.

Apart from @Intelinside57 obviously 😉.

OlaEliza · 20/03/2020 11:01

Here it is.

fancyant · 20/03/2020 11:09

Because men have never been commodities to be bought and sold by women, but women have been commodities to be bought and sold by men for millennia. There are probably men panic-buying women in some places in the world right now. It might even be happening in the UK with trafficked women. So yes, of course it would be different.

HTH

Alsohuman · 20/03/2020 11:09

Thank you OlaEliza, it always helps when you can actually see what’s being discussed. Storm in a fucking tea cup. Men have been objectifying women for centuries, it’s about time the traffic went the other way.

Pentium85 · 20/03/2020 11:11

Oh if this was the other way around!

OP, you’ll find many people on here will change their opinion as and when it benefits them. Sad really.

Eckhart · 20/03/2020 11:15

@toogoodtobetrue nice judgement call on something you don't know about

But you said you'd given us 'enough info here to make a call'!

Eckhart · 20/03/2020 11:17

If totally agree with your OP, though.

smiften · 20/03/2020 11:19

I can't believe anyone gives a stuff.

InMySpareTime · 20/03/2020 11:25

My first thought was "that's just unsanitary🤢"
I mean, who's going to want their groceries in a trolley that had naked butt-flesh on it?
Ewww.

I can't get het up about the sexism issue.

People of any age, sex or colour should not be naked in shopping trollers.

InMySpareTime · 20/03/2020 11:26

*trollers is obviously meant to be trollies
Thanks Autocarrot!

AngelsSins · 20/03/2020 11:26

Oh if this was the other way around!

What do you mean “if”?

Women are literally being sold, no outcry
There are thousands, maybe millions of women being humiliated and abused online, no outcry
Adverts the world over have used sexually provocative images of women to sell stuff, no outcry.
We had page 3 up until very recently, not much of an outcry there either.

I can’t get my head around women pretending that images like this don’t exist of women and if that they ever dared to, they’d be instantly shutdown.

Pentium85 · 20/03/2020 11:29

@AngelsSins

At no point was I saying the exploration of women wasn’t happening, I was simply saying that if this specific picture and this specific scenario had been posted with a women in the trolley, the response would be different.

Eckhart · 20/03/2020 11:29

No outcry? What's feminism? Mild disagreement?

AngelsSins · 20/03/2020 11:30

At no point was I saying the exploration of women wasn’t happening, I was simply saying that if this specific picture and this specific scenario had been posted with a women in the trolley, the response would be different

I think you’re extremely wrong, all evidence shows there would be very little outrage.

Canadianpancake · 20/03/2020 11:31

It's ok, but prefer the one of the Spanish Army.

Pentium85 · 20/03/2020 11:32

@AngelsSins

If a someone posted on here a picture of a naked women in a trolley, posters would be disgusted.

If you think differently, then clearly you’ve not seen a huge amount of threads on here.
