Working as a delievery packer in a store - am i too small

Looking for a job to keep me going over this virus as my previous zero hour contract has gone;
Local Tesco is looking for temporary packers for delievery,
I'm 24 but very petite (7 stone 4 pounds, and 5')
Would i be able to do this job?? Or do they tend to be stronger people??

It describes that we go around the store and find the stock

I don’t see why not - if there’s stuff that’s out of reach presumably they’ll have a kick along to stand on?

I would think it's about your strength rather than hight tbh. There might be heavier lifting like large washing powders, box of jars etc. You should speak to them

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 19/03/2020 19:55

I am talking from experience of normal shop staff, not the packer. We had to stock things so it required strength

I have stocked shelves in my previous part time job in Morrisons when I was 20,
I was able to stock the bananas quite pkay and they were heavy hahah

Do you mean the people who pick the online orders?

If you can do your own shopping, obviously you can do that job.

JuneJulyAug · 19/03/2020 20:02

Yes the people who pick the orders,
I suppose there's no harm in applying!

I used to do that job OP and plenty of people like you. It was mostly 16-20yo anyway

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 19/03/2020 20:11

You will be fine then. Go for it.

dontaskformedicaladviceonmn · 19/03/2020 20:21

The trolleys can get pretty heavy when you are pushing them around full of orders but I’ve seen plenty of petite people doing it.

Pixxie7 · 19/03/2020 20:25

Presuming you can do your own shopping, therefore you should be ok.

JuneJulyAug · 19/03/2020 20:45

Thanks everyone :) it was probably a stupid question but im feeling pretty stressed atm as not much jobs going my area right now,
Tough times but i hope youre all doing okay in this current climate!

I’m 5ft and eight stone, I regularly heave 20kg boxes around at work, sometimes boxes can be awkward when you have shorter arms but as long as you have the strength you will be fine.

isthistoonosy · 19/03/2020 20:56

Just go for it whats the worse that can happen. I was a similar build to you when I was younger and have done jobs that are typically male, women ' can't ' do them ect and they all pretty much worked out fine.

MintyMabel · 20/03/2020 09:50

It’s doing people’s shopping. My 4ft 5st ten year old who has CP can do that. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

JustGoFurther · 20/03/2020 10:22

I work for a supermarket. The work can be physically demanding. But you should be fine. Just be sensible - open boxes/packages and remove things one at a time. Get help with things that you can’t easily split into smaller components.

StillDisappointed · 20/03/2020 10:35

You're doing peoples shopping OP. If you can do your own shopping, you'll be fine.
