... to want to kill the builder across the road?

DP and I both have the flu or possibly the crow virus. We have been self-isolating for several days.

We've both been feeling shit and trying to sleep/rest, but the house across the road have been having some work done and the guy has been using a circular saw to cut wood for what feels like aeons.

It was bad enough when I felt really shit, and I just lay in bed feeling generally dreadful. Today I feel much better and I want to go and kill him, or at least make him stop. The whining sound of the saw goes right through me, and has the same effect as the nails on a blackboard noise.

If I'm BU, please can someone suggest a way of overcoming my wound up tighter than a drumskin rage, or I'm really going to lose it.

I'd prefer not to enter into retaliatory noise, like playing Carmina Burana REALLY REALLY LOUD, but I fear it may yet come to that.

Incidentally, these are the same neighbours that bought the world's flimsiest bin store, put it up, then went away for two weeks when it was stormy. It fell apart a bit, and we had to endure 2 weeks of it clattering 24/7, so they're not in my good books.

In fairness, the guy did come over and apologise about the bin store.

Is crow virus another name for bird flu? Wink

UnitedRoad · 19/03/2020 15:02

You poor thing.

I’m not saying this will help but it works for me. When my husbands snoring makes me start thinking about putting a pillow over his head, I put the fan on the highest setting. It sort of drowns him out, and the steady humming sound seems to help me sleep.

The downside is my bedrooms freezing, but it’s worth it.

Crow virus Grin Knicking that!

Lockheart · 19/03/2020 15:09

Can you move to a room which doesn't face the road?

Thescrewinthetuna · 19/03/2020 15:10

Ear plugs? Some nice soothing music on your phone? I’m sorry there’s not much you can do unfortunately. I hope you feel better soon

DontCallMeShitley · 19/03/2020 15:46

I sympathise. Our neighbours use the so called 'gardeners' that just come and blitz everything in sight with the loudest equipment they can find. I have been woken 3 times this week and I really need to sleep to keep on top of all the crap we are dealing with. Proper gardeners would be fine but these people should be shot. I am sure they shouldn't be so loud.

I misread Covid-19 as Corvid-19, and asked DP if he knew why it was named after crows. Blush

He has taken to calling it old crone virus, the cheeky fucker.

Not without sorting through 20 years worth of crap, doing several trips to the tip and moving the bed. Blush

I suppose I could try sleeping on the kitchen table, the kitchen's at the back. Grin

I think the noisy fucker may have hacked our internet, he's been quiet for 20 minutes now.

White noise may be your friend here. A nice loud recording of a fan.
Depends on the pitch of the saw I guess, but try it. There are loads on YouTube.

I find PA sighing, tossing, turning and huffing works for me. He gets so pissed off with it, he goes downstairs and sleeps on the sofa.

I sympathise. I have often thought, while watching the European videos of grounded communities singing and playing music off balconies, that people with flu in the block must want to kill them!

Fluffybutter · 19/03/2020 16:18

I’ll swap you the saw for living between two houses who both have 2 boys each and couldn’t give a fuck that they make noise constantly.. totally fed up that I have to put up with this bullshit for weeks ,every single fucking day until the little shits go back to school ..

Does he always have such poor taste?

Tableclothing · 19/03/2020 16:26

Carmina Burana is brilliant; play it anyway.

chocolatemonster · 19/03/2020 16:31

I understand it must be frustrating but some of these people are self employed and are probably trying to cram in as much work as possible as the likelihood is very soon they won8be able to work meaning no pay.

LakieLady · 19/03/2020 16:56

Does he always have such poor taste?

Yes! He makes lots of very dark jokes, and has a truly twisted sense of humour.

The only tasteful thing he's ever done was get together with me.

I've got the Missa Luba on now, also brilliant. Grin
