TV ads - it's life but not as we know it

Well it never was in many cases to be fair but now when the ads come on it's almost like seeing a different planet.

Longer eye-lashes, plumper lips, glossier hair?? Who gives a damn?

All this food you can here at Tesco/Morrisons/Aldi/Asda etc. - No you can't

Cruise ships and holidays - ha!ha!

Kids in school - no

People at the office - increasingly no

People hugging, kissing, talking, holding hands, gathering in groups, meeting in bars, coffee shops and restaurants.

A different world.

I'm seeing a rise in funeral parlour adverts - especially online

sprayandwipealot · 19/03/2020 12:46
Sad

I agree op I was watching something last night where 2 people greeted each other and I thought "what are you doing don't shake his hand" and then "why are you in the pub"

Also on my way home there's was an advert in the radio saying "the housing market is getting moving again" and thought are you mad?

It's shocking how much has changed so quickly.

NoBoojustNo · 19/03/2020 13:16

Yes I'm seeing a lot of online funeral plan things too. I do have a plan in place and I'm going to put all my important documents in a folder for my family just in case.

But I never thought it might be used like this.

sprayandwipealot · 19/03/2020 13:18

Yes it's a shock it's changed quickly.

I miss my old, imperfect, worrisome life so much.

I'm wondering how Eastenders is going to portray things, because it's shot mainly in the pub/cafe etc.

Coronation Street is alreasy showing it changing things.

I've also packed a hospital bag and organised my house and bedroom, so I'm not embarrassed for someone to go through my drawers. I live with my 22 year old, who has LDs.

sprayandwipealot · 19/03/2020 13:42

It's even changed my reading habits. I loved a good world disaster/dystopian novel - now I can't read them because it's too close to our current reality.

My DD was watching Pablo on CBeebies earlier and it was an episode about pasta. They were in the supermarket and oh my god there was so much pasta on the shelves! It does feel like we are suddenly in a different reality.

And I will definitely be appreciating time spent with extended family and go out a lot more when this is all over.

Sonichu · 19/03/2020 14:08

So you miss life from what, last week or something?

OlaEliza · 19/03/2020 14:15

BBC have stopped filming EastEnders, casualty etc so they won't portray it.

sprayandwipealot · 19/03/2020 14:39

So you miss life from what, last week or something

Absolutely. My life is very different from what it was even 7 days ago and likely to become ever more different as this progresses.

Oh no, how will my 90 year old mother cope, she'll be lost without her soaps it might finally convince her how bad things are though

I don't watch soaps but I think it's a mistake to stop filming because it won't reflect reality. We don't want to see it in our entertainment - we see it and hear it morning, noon and night! - we want to escape from it!

Having said that, it does include a lot of people, actors, camera crew etc. being together for hours and hours on end which is now not safe.

It's those recruitment ads saying "There's never been a better time to join the NHS". Um...Hmm

halcyondays · 19/03/2020 15:42

By coincidence Corrie will be showing an episode where Yasmeen or somebody washes their hands while singing happy birthday. It was written before the Coronavirus started.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 19/03/2020 15:45

I’ve noticed an increase in adverts from those awful loan companies with massive APR. Shouldn’t be allowed to prey on people at a time like this.

sprayandwipealot · 19/03/2020 16:14

Never been a better time to join the NHS

Yes, you're right I hadn't thought of that! They were offering £5000 to train or something.

OP, YABVU. Having your eyebrows threaded TOTALLY makes up for losing your job, family members potentially dying, the world going into lock down and your kids missing school. Get your priorities straight!

PlomBear · 19/03/2020 16:27

Apparently the NHS have stopped recruiting for some posts. I have a friend who is looking to back to work after being a SAHM. She’s applied for a dozen admin jobs and she’s had emails back saying delay in recruitment / post on hold.

Ha! I know you jest but seeing some of the things on the net I do wonder if I am overreacting. There is a popular beauty lady on YT who only a few days ago did video about a beauty procedure and talks about going out and about and acts like nothing unusual is happening. It really is like she is in a different world than I am. It really does make me question if I AM overreacting.

I can be as vain as anyone and werret about trivial things but right now I can only think of surviving and the essentials and hope we all get through this in one piece without a loved one dying.

I went food shopping this morning - no pasta of course - and on the way back a man passed me walking his dog. Thankfully, he was a quite a distance away but as he passed he coughed his guts out and didn't cover his mouth! I was just stunned. I mean, he may think that his cough isn't CV but how does he know?

I also went to the chemist where you had to queue to be let in and they checked if they had what you wanted before they let you in. As I moved closer to the door 3 elderly ladies moved closer and when I turned round they were all bunched up together and right next to me!

Don't they get it?
