Parking... More of a wwyd

3 houses either side of road. I live in middle one. Currently only house with driveway. Have guests up so parking my car on road opposite, guest car in drive as alot bigger than mine that's on the road.

Houses opposite have 4 cars and 2 big work vans for 3 houses. No permit on the road, no restrictions to stop anyone parking there. I have parked on opposite side of the road to allow vehicles to still get down the road, (have tried before parking outside my own house but neighbours park opposite regardless which has resulted in cars not been able to get past and me having to move mine).

Anyway, my dp has received message tonight saying my car needs to be moved as neighbour cannot park outside their door. Fwiw no other cars on the street tonight.

Had a drink so not doing anything tonight but in the morning, would you move the car somewhere else to keep the peace or keep it parked opposite because not actually doing anything wrong? Feeling conflicted as to what to do.

Wouldn’t move. Don’t set a precedent!

londonrach · 18/03/2020 22:32

You know the rules. Parking one needs diagram! 😜

sunfloweryy · 18/03/2020 22:32

No don’t move. They don’t own the road outside their house.

londonrach · 18/03/2020 22:33

..i wouldnt move the car either

PinkiOcelot · 18/03/2020 22:34

I wouldn’t move it. So what if they can’t park outside of their house.

ExServiceWoman · 18/03/2020 22:34

Wooooo hoooooo a parking thread!!! Thanks OP

But in answer to your question .... def don't move the car ... ever!!

Fleeflyyflooo · 18/03/2020 22:41

Dp thinks we should be passive aggressive and park in front of our own house from now on (even with no visitors)

I would simply ignore. If they challenge you in person next time you go to car or they knock on your door. Just say its a public road without restrictions.

Be wary of potential keying, let down tyres etc though if you think they're the vindictive sort

Diagram

Say you’re in isolation so not appropriate
Tell them you’re on holiday in France skiing
Explain that your friend has the car keys and unlikey to be back from lindon before the lockdown

Or jyst say

Get a life

Queenoftheashes · 18/03/2020 22:52

Fuck em

Aliceinunderland · 18/03/2020 22:52

If you have your own drive, why wouldn't you park your car there once your guests have gone and you are safe to drive? Neighbour is a CF asking you to move but honestly it's annoying AF when my neighbour parks on the road instead of his own drive for no apparent reason (ie when your drive is empty. However parking is savage here. Is it worth falling out over?

JudyCoolibar · 18/03/2020 22:53

How long do you have guests for? Shouldn't they be going home in anticipation of lockdown?

johnwayneisbigleggy · 18/03/2020 23:02

@judy - why did you need to do that? Could we not have just one thread without mentioning it? And lockdown isn't even in force yet so just stop it

mumwon · 18/03/2020 23:02

@JudyCoolibar pre-lockdown party?

Fleeflyyflooo · 18/03/2020 23:10

@Aliceinunderland I probably will be moving my car when guests leave but it's just the entitlement through the text that has really annoyed me. I can understand if I parked their often and my drive was empty but I thought I was doing the right thing by leaving the road still accessible and parking the biggest car on my drive.

@mumwon 😂

No, you stay there, OP. The people who think they're entitled to park in front of their own house regardless of the rest of the world really grind my gears! I live near a few that park opposite a bloody junction for this reason. Angry

Aliceinunderland · 18/03/2020 23:17

@fleeflyyflooo

Yeah he is a CF for sure, you can't argue with stupid. Surely a case of driveway jealousy. I would never actually say anything to my neighbour about his parking as he's technically not doing anything wrong, I just glare disapprovingly and he pretends to ignore me 😂
