Our pup was prenamed with something which really suited him. My hypothetical pup was rufus.

Fr0g · 19/03/2020 20:14

he is beautiful - how old is he in the photo?

I always live with my pets for a week or two and chose something that fits their character.

GameSetMatch · 19/03/2020 20:33

Ludo, was my late dogs name but think it suits your puppy, it means ‘to play’

namemypuppyplz · 19/03/2020 23:21

@frostedviolets should the puppy be returned to it's mother's womb?

Dpuppy won't be allowed out until around end of April.
We have a huge garden with a gate into woods that people tend to walk their dogs in.
Exercise and socialisation won't be an issue.
Myself, DH and DC will be home now full time for about 12 weeks. Dpuppy won't lack for attention.

@Fr0g 5 / 6 weeks

And labradoodles are not all big dogs as there is no standard size. You can only look at its parents to make an educated guess.
We will be perfectly fine if he's bigger than expected.

should the puppy be returned to it's mother's womb?
I’m just saying that exposure to lots of different environments in early puppyhood is so important and failure to do it may lead to behavioural problems.

We don’t currently know the plan in this country but a lockdown at some point seems extremely likely.

I think it’s an important point to consider.
We were looking forward to buying our second puppy this summer, not at all sure now if we will be going ahead as don’t want any problems as a result of lack of socialisation.

^lAnd labradoodles are not all big dogs as there is no standard size. You can only look at its parents to make an educated guess
Labradoodle is Labrador x poodle?
Presumably Labrador x standard (large) poodle as Labrador x toy poodle or Labrador x miniature poodle would surely be irresponsible and potentially dangerous due to the size discrepancy I would have thought?

If they aren’t breeding labradors to toy or miniature poodles how are they creating these ‘miniature labradoodles’ exactly?

I have met a fair few labradoodles and they’ve all been absolutely massive.

It just stinks of irresponsible ‘breeder’ to me.

lovepickledlimes · 20/03/2020 00:01

@frostedviolets you still did not explain what should happen with the puppy now it is here. The breeders family will have the same problems socializing it that OP does.

I assume that when this puppy was breed no one had even heard of corono yet. So not exactly the same as getting a puppy in the summer

lovepickledlimes · 20/03/2020 00:01

Corona not corono

I'm an experienced dog owner I know all about exposing puppies to different places and environments. You didn't answer my question about where the puppy should go? Back in it's mother's womb?

It's a labradoodle cross with miniature poodle. Labradoodles aren't a recognised breed, there's no standard. They're certainly not irresponsible breeders. We've been researching breeders in the area for 12 months.

The puppy won't need huge amounts of exercise in the early stages anyway, as it could put undue pressure on his joints.

OP he is gorgeous, I wish you lots of fun with him. 🐾

namemypuppyplz · 20/03/2020 00:12

Just the first thing that comes up. There's plenty of other reading for you.
Size and coat type depends on how many generations down the chain you are and how much poodle vs lab is in the mix.
And the mother who is a 1st gen (straight lab x poodle) is not absolutely huge at all. She's a medium sized dog.
