Frozen Food

In the present hysterical hoarding situation, with the grocery shops nearly empty, my normally sensible wife said We have no food!
I pointed out that we had a lot of frozen food in the freezer.
She replied That's not food!
When I told her that I would post this remark on MumsNet, she said Well go on then!
She does not agree with me.
I have shown her this post, and she shouted said This is not food that I can COOK. It is already prepared meals.
Opinions?

This a probably now a "Zombie Thread".
But just today, my wife has succeeded in cooking an excellent meal, without relying (much) on the freezer. It is called "Mediterranean Chicken Casserole".
It looks great, and we will eat it shortly.
Perhaps I was wrong to criticise her despising our frozen food.

in defence of your wife though, I found myself staring at a half empy fridge, and saying there is no food...

half fucking empty, as in half full, full freezer, full cupboard... (what the fuck was I thinking?)

and I have been pissed off when I have driven two disabled children on a hundred mile round trip to sort my mum out with food when she had no food.... (run out of tomatoes)

I had to have words with myself about not turning into my mother. Grin

I think sometimes we struggle with there being not the food we want at that moment, and the worry of not being able to go out and get it easily.

My freezer is mainly full of food that was teetering on its best before date so I froze it instead of chucking it. I could quite easily defrost ingredients to cook properly - meat, veg, noodles etc. It's not all fish fingers and chips.

Thank you for providing my daily dose of entertainment - very much needed that. 😬

Of course it's bloody food!

I wouldn't refer to frozen meals as necessarily healthy OP. Have you ever wondered why the 'chicken' comes in even cubes and not like 'normal' chicken? Because its highly processed and often mechanically separated from the chicken (look it up without vomiting!) Many are often full of fat, salt, sugar and preservatives. I'm not saying they can't be eaten as part of a healthy diet if needed, as a rescue meal for example, but not day in day out. I do wonder why you bought so many if you OH can't eat them?
Could she eat the veg from the ones where the meat/veg is separate?

Frozen veg, however, often has far more nutrients than fresh veg due to the time between picking and freezing.
