To ask if Anaemia can really make you feel this bad??

I suffer with chronic anaemia. Last time I was tested my levels were 9. They have been 6 in the past.

Dr says this is what is causing my following symptoms ...

Absolute exhaustion. I’m constantly tired, constantly struggling. I get out of breath and shaky just walking up the stairs. I literally can’t be arsed to move.

Hangover every morning. I wake up every morning feeling like I’ve been on a massive session the night before. Headache, muscular pains, ridiculously groggy where I lay on the couch feeling like I can’t possibly go to work. Dizzy, nauseated, absolutely, utterly exhausted.

Funnily enough I feel better in a morning if I do actually have a drink the night before!!???

Can anaemia really cause all this?

Could you ask for an iron infusion. I had 2 towards the end of pregnancy which meant my iron levels levelled out to normal by the time I gave birth

As an alcoholic OP may not have that option. There are many compications due to the alcohol.

Op, are you replacing alcohol with actual food?
You may have been relying on alcohol for calories and waking up hypoglycaemic. Some slow release carbs before bed might help.

Yes. After a drawn out miscarriage I was diagnosed with anemia. I felt so exhausted but the worse thing was the headaches, proper thumping migraines that didn't fully go until I'd been taking a high dose of iron for a month or so (and the bleeding stopped). Hope you feel better soon

Good luck with getting sober. You've taken the first steps

My ferritin level was 2 at the beginning of Feb, and I felt absolutely bloody awful. I had no energy, was breathless, aches pains, sheer exhaustion, so yes it makes you feel dreadful.

I had an iron infusion and promptly got a chest infection so it was a while before I started to feel better (only in the last week or so)

Keep going on getting sober, and I hope you feel better soon
