I'm a member of local community board that covers a group of villages in the South East.
I dont know anyone that owns a ferret but i am always seeing pictures of ferrets and people saying 'just saw this ferret by x y z if you are missing it'
Do lots of people have ferrets? Do they get lost easily. Its not the same ferret..

Paahhaaaa . How random I will be back later for updates.

HolaWeenie · 16/03/2020 20:05

We have a ferret sanctuary in my village in Essex, there's always people asking if anyone has lost a ferret as they often break out of the sanctuary.

I had a ferret turn up in my garden randomly a few years ago. The rescue centre I handed it into said they go missing all the time. Basically people put their working ferrets down rabbit holes and then the ferrets don’t always come back up so get left. Very cruel.

It was a lovely little ferret as well. I’d have loved to have kept her but my ex wouldn’t let meSad

My colleague lives on a small estate on the edge of a town which has a community FB group and one household keeps ferrets that are always getting out. It seems to be a ferret thing.

Grasspigeons · 16/03/2020 20:11

So they are escape artists. Maybe its just ine ferret keeper keeps losing his ferrets.

My neighbours daughters had ferrets as childhood pets.
Provided handled daily and kept outside (smell) they make lovely pets.
Used to see them going for walks on leads

SoleBizzz · 16/03/2020 20:19

I don't know anything about ferrets. Are they not born and live in the wild?

Fluffybutter · 16/03/2020 20:21

Oh my god.. we have the same issue.
I’m in Hertfordshire and it’s all they ever post about.
Then there was an “incident” and now there’s constant ferret jokes and it’s known as “ferretgate “

Ferret is as ferret does!

unkindnessofravens · 16/03/2020 20:29

I live in Scotland and I saw a ferret sighting post on FB last night, so strange!

lolaflores · 16/03/2020 20:32

Like ferret up a pipe! I love them. I think they are amazing, clever clever little bendy furry cuties. And they keep the rats a d mice down too into the bargain. They do smell though. Arwnt they related to mink? And mink have broken out of fur farms and decimated ecosystems because they kill fucking everything? Raid chicken houses and are sods to trap? Revenge for the fur coats situation probably.
Slight diversion there but escape skills are strong in the ferret weasel mink family

Twofurrycatsagain · 16/03/2020 20:44

We get spates of escapee ferrets. Even had one where someone went and claimed a ferret that wasn't theirs. Caused a fair row.

tealandteal · 16/03/2020 20:49

They are little escape artists but any decent ferret owner would know that and house them suitably. I haven't owned ferrets for a few years now and miss them! They do have a "unique odor"

Grasspigeons · 16/03/2020 21:03

Its a whole world i didnt know about - im glad its not just my fb group
