To be freaking out - accidental overdose

I dislocated my shoulder yesterday and was given codeine, I had also been prescribed tramadol which needed to be collected. I have been pretty out of it today and before one of my mates went to collect my tramadol, I took 2 x 30mg of codeine. They then came back just over an hour later with my tramadol I was in and out of sleep and I took 2 x 50mg of tramadol. I felt hazy pretty quickly and very tired and fell asleep for 5 hours. I am feeling quite dizzy. AIBU to be worried?

I don't think you need to worry (I'm on opiates as well) but obviously be more careful. You'll have taken more in the short term than is recommended, but it's very unlikely to have done damage as a one off.

I think you will be fine. My mum was on 100mg tramadol three times a day, a max of 8 50mg in 24 hours.

Tramadol will knock you sideways, especially at first. Was it paracetamol & codeine?

Half life of either is relatively short - the minimum dosing interval is 4 hours you are now through that. You can take paracetamol, ibuprofen and EITHER codeine, OR tramadol regularly. The first painkiller to drop is the opiate. When you are over this acute pain please take any unused opiates into a pharmacy to dispose of them safely.

I also think you will be fine. In future I would recommend putting all medication "allowance" aside. If you think you may need them when you've been asleep, , put them in another room.

I was taking dihydrocodene and paracetamol for six months I was always concerned that is accidentally overdose.
