Teenagers socialising outside school

So the teens spend all day with their friends at school (you'd think that would be enough!) but are no longer allowed to socialise outside school according to the new Covid rules - it's a tough sell...it doesn't make much sense.
AIBU to tell them that between 9-3 Mon to Fri it's perfectly safe but outside these hours it's not allowed.

Its crazy. My son was supposed to have some friends over on Saturday for a 17th birthday party but I'm in 2 minds now. About 8 of them.

I'm just struggling to sell it to them - they will comply but how do you justify keeping schools open, kids sit on top of each other and then banning them hanging out outside school?

It’s idiotic. You’re apparently ok to attend work with minging shared hot desk policy, touching the same disgusting keyboard and mouse as loads of other people but you can’t go and get a pizza after work with the same people. Fuck that.

I can't see any higher risk of small numbers of teenagers meeting privately when they've been with each other through the school day. Mental health and wellbeing is as important as the physical.

Mixing and crissing crowds from one setting with others is not such a good idea.

We are in the US but as of today we are out of school until April 6th,including any extracurricular activities or tryouts etc...And our state school board will call another emergency meeting closer to April to reassess the situation.

Tbh I wouldn't worry too much. It's not going to be long until they just close the schools.
