Hello all
Please be kind. I am well aware that there are bigger issues to contend with at the moment but just wondered if anyone had any advice with regard to the following.
Due to fly to France next week for a week's holiday. Received an email on Friday that the accommodation portion of our trip has been cancelled. That is fine, we wouldn't have risked going and hoped the whole trip would be cancelled. However, airline won't refund flights unless cancelled or FCO guidance says no as they say the flights are still running and have said we can re book a different hotel.
I have contacted a number of places and they are not taking bookings, not opening, or are being used as health clinics.
French govt. Say essential travel only and this trip is not essential for us, but UK FCO says it is still ok to travel.
AIBU that the refund process should take into consideration the wider context and acknowledge that whilst people might be able to fly, there is no public transport, accommodation available and the lock down initiatives.
My colleague has booked Disneyland, and has been informed they will received a refund for the hotel and tickets, but not the flight element of the package as they can still travel.
The rules seem absurd and travel insurance doesnt cover this until the FCO state no travel allowed.
I appreciate this is a first world problem, and am just seeing if anyone else is in the same boat.
