AIBU to still go to work?

I have had a chesty cough for a month (courtesy of my toddler!). I wasn’t worried about CV before as I hadn’t been abroad or been around anybody with it. I took my toddler to the doctor last week for a check up as he is still coughing and doctor confirmed he has had an upper respiratory illness.

Now the advice for CV has changed and I’m worried about going to work (in a school!) when I still have a cough.

Would you go? I don’t have a temperature/aches and pains, maybe feel a bit tight chested. I have terrible anxiety and I don’t know if this is just making me overthink this!
Please help! AIBU to still go to work?

YANBU. My friend is in exactly the same position and is working.

YANBU. You've had the cough for way longer.

I thought it was a new, continuous cough. I understand your awkwardness though. I had a similar thing and still have a cough and feel very awkward.

I think the advice is to self isolate if it is a new cough, not an existing one.

New continuous cough or / and fever. Yours sounds older than that. But people may still be fearful of going near you

Why don't you call your school and ask?

Aloe6 · 16/03/2020 10:01

Yanbu. I’ve had a cough for several weeks now, the rules to self isolate don’t apply.

If you are unwell at all, you should not go into work, no matter what is wrong with you. You risk making others sick, who might well get a worse case than you do, and the health services can't cope with any extra illness, no matter what they are. The resources are finite (and that includes medication).
