To imagine Justin Fletcher coming to a sticky end

Maybe sleep deprivation or just trying to distract myself from all the craziness at the moment but...

I watch the start of something special and when Justin is singing his hello song in whichever place they are at that episode, I imagine him coming a cropper in a scenario, eg falling in front of the train, getting kicked by the kangaroo at the zoo etc etc. I have to have lost it... 🙄

Blimey, what on earth was deletable in what I said? Confused

I won't repeat it (obviously), but I thought the first bit was in the jokey spirit of the thread - certainly not worse than the OP!

I will say again (as I see other people saying similar) that I am surprised people think he's normalising disability. I find him incredibly patronising on Something Special. And I really hate the premise that children with disabilities need to be cordoned off into their own little show, as if they're all the same.

Biggleton - which, I admit, is bloody annoying but DD loved it for a while - is much better in this regard. There are children with disabilities but it's never made a great 'thing' and no one calls them 'special' in a voice that implies they are to be pitied.

I agree @SarahAndQuack the whole thing is incredibly patronising especially with its s twee little " Something Special " title as I said earlier my son has severe autism and learning disabilities and goes to a special school and Justin and Co filmed at his school a few years ago ,My child and his e peers are.just kids with disabilities just like any other kids .

LittleMissYorkshireLass · 17/03/2020 09:51

I've never liked him, my kids are to old for it now but I recently watched some again when looking after a friends child, there's something about him that makes me very uneasy, a gut feeling, but I can't put my finger on it? The makaton is great though.

I find him incredibly patronising on Something Special.

Yeah, he speaks like he's talking to little kids or something.

SarahAndQuack · 17/03/2020 11:11

It's not necessary to patronise little kids, though?

There's speaking slowly and clearly for someone with hearing loss, or choosing your words carefully so you don't confuse a child, or whatever. But then there's what he does, which just sounds so condescending. He does exactly the same for children with all sorts of different disabilities, too, so you couldn't argue he is tailoring it to what that individual child might need.

Emmelina · 17/03/2020 11:16

Definitely get what you mean! I work with kids with SEN, if I spoke to them like that I’d be pulled up on it.

There used to be a show called Melody and I think she was deaf. That was much better but my children are too old for CBeebies so don't know if it's still on. Also I heard Tree Fu Tom was about special needs but I can't see how that relates (unless it's changed a lot in the last few weeks).

@Anychance123

The fox song was originally by Ylvis though, wasn't it? Justin just covered it. Though he does a decent enough job, I suppose.

However, I know who I'd rather wake up with...

@namechangetheworld I don't live in the actual house but I live in the cottages that you see in the intro and throughout!
