Taking my life in my hands on AIBU....

The wisdom of crowds tells me that someone here can solve my problem. Or at least help me work it out.

In a mutual aid group, where people are generally known (smallish community), can we set up some kind of payment system which is transparent or at least accountable?

It's about picking up small items of supplies for people.

I was thinking a paypal account or similar. I would seed it with say £50. People could make donations.
People could be tasked to shop for others, and be refunded.
People can reimburse the pot, if they are able.

The thing is, how do I keep it accountable? How do I make sure no one can misappropriate the money?

Well if someone shopped for me I could just transfer them the money, couldn’t I?

But personally, I'm not sure why you would need to do this surely people would just pay whoever bought something for them.

Yes, actually I've just twigged. The people who are delivering the items are not vulnerable, so can receive cash when they drop things off. Doh. I've been sidetracked by the avoiding human contact thing.

That's an interesting link though, and might still be useful. Thanks!
