To think there will be a baby boom in the next 10 - 12 months

With social distancing and people staying at home more over the next few months I think this is inevitable. I don't think there are generally enough school places etc at present to cope with this though the government will need to figure this out in a few years if it happens.

Either that or a huge rise in divorces Grin

Witchofzog · 15/03/2020 18:48

Divorces. Most probably Grin

Bit of column A, bit of column B.

Neolara · 15/03/2020 18:50

Huge rise in family therapy...

HairyFloppins · 15/03/2020 18:50

I predict divorces. I don't want no-one to touch me at the moment.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 15/03/2020 18:51

My teenager said this. then she said when they turned 13 - they would be the quaranteens. It's made me giggle all day.

BettyCrockaShit · 15/03/2020 18:53

I went to Tesco quickly earlier (mistake in itself) and the couple in front of me at the checkout were buying 2 whacking great packs of condoms. The woman serving them arched an eyebrow and they replied: "well, the next couple of weeks are going to be boring otherwise - might as well make the most of it."

I suspect you're on to something, OP.

nancy75 · 15/03/2020 18:56

Not if they close the schools, looking after kids 24/7 with no end in sight would definitely put most people off having more!!

Witchofzog · 15/03/2020 19:01

The quaranteens. I love it Grin

Nah, it's apparently a myth.

bellabasset · 15/03/2020 19:14

😂 Think it will be a bit of both tbh, don't think my booked holiday in Italy will happen though😥. Those of us lucky enough to have gardens will at least be able to sit outside, nip through the back to see each other in the garden. If it's dry I can start repainting the house as I can leave windows open, and I have furniture I want to upcycle.

Will need to shop for basics though. How can the government say don't panic buy but isolate the elderly and vulnerable for 4 months? Our village shop is just being enlarged before reopening so I'm lucky enough to get most items locally and have someone collect them

Waffles80 · 15/03/2020 19:17

Given we don’t know much about the virus, it would be foolish to become pregnant deliberately at this point.

Ellmau · 15/03/2020 19:19

I think many will be too anxious about economic meltdown to consider having a baby right now.

I'm in this camp,

Based on MN basically about only 5% people actually get pregnant deliberately.Grin So yeah. Baby boom coming

NurseJaques · 15/03/2020 19:30

I think relationships will crumble Shock

LemonTT · 15/03/2020 19:31

There will definitely be a spike in DV

pigsDOfly · 15/03/2020 19:31

The quaranteens Grin

I agree. Who would want to bring a child into this health crisis not o mention the stock shortages and financial impact the current situation may cause.

paintcolourwoes · 15/03/2020 19:33

I definitely wouldn’t want to try and deliberately conceive at the moment. And lockdown will involve my kids being there all the time. So unlikely for us

DreamInLavender · 15/03/2020 19:33

Yes, and probably a rise in need for abortion services. The two go hand in hand

CSIblonde · 15/03/2020 20:07

Well I did read that Pornhub has made its Premier paid service free, in Italy only. Tho the Daily Fail graph suggested the US & then the UK lead the world in online porn viewing, followed by Japan.

thecatsthecats · 15/03/2020 20:29

I'm not aware that the virus has any specific known effects on pregnancy but I'm sure as hell not getting pregnant in the midst of an international health crisis.

Plus as soon as the world is back to normal I'd have a young baby and not as able to enjoy it Grin

Witchofzog · 15/03/2020 21:43

I think baby booms are generally due to circumstances rather than intent though. I agree with most posters on here. No way would I choose to have a baby with the current situation but I can see how it could happen
