DH and I go to the same gym. There isn’t separate men and women changing rooms, there are approx 10 individuals bathrooms with a shower, toilet, hair dryer, mirror etc and a few with just toilets.

The other day we had plans straight after the gym, my class finished early so I went and had a shower. Checked my phone after and DH had text me saying there was a queue for the bathrooms. I said he could come in with me and shower while I got dry, dressed etc as we had to be somewhere. He only takes a couple of mins in the shower and was ready before me anyway!

Anyway when I let him in with me a lady in front of him in the queue tutted and it made me super paranoid that maybe this was wrong? What does mumsnet think?

My thinking was that I would be occupying the cubicle for another 10 mins anyway what difference does it make if he’s in there too! But could see why it looked like queue jumping.

She probably thought you were going to have sex in there.

In her eyes he was queue jumping. She wasn’t to know he’d be in there the same amount of time as you.

I wouldn’t worry about it though.

I'd generally say the norm is that adults use individual bathrooms/changing areas individually so going in as a couple was going to get that reaction.

Yeah I can see why she was annoyed, it looked like queue jumping. Even though you knew you were still going to be in there for another 10 mins or whatever, she didn't know that and probably thought you were just waiting for him at that point or dragging out your own changing etc. I think for politeness' sake I would only do this if you were both going in at the same time.

And yes, if that sort of thing becomes the norm, couples probably will start having sex. There's always one!

If I been that lady I would not have cared in the slightest that he 'queue jumped' (after all I wouldn't have jumped in there with you so wouldn't have got in any faster) however I would definitely have assumed you'd be shagging so that could be why you got tutted at!

As an aside - sounds like a lovely gym! although if there's nowhere to just get changed other than the few private rooms are there not huge queues at busy times?

Well it would look like queue jumping because it was! How was she to know that he would supposedly only shower for the length of time it would take you to dress - and even then he would also take time to then get dry and dressed himself

Why did you not briefly say to the queue "this is my husband we take half the time" as he walked in? would have made sense and I am sure everyone would have understood. But so far as they knew maybe you just that day met at the gym and decided to have a bit of fun in the showers....

Because lesbians never have sex? Since these were single cubicles for any gender, what sex the second person identifies as is irrelevant. The tutting was either for the queue jumping (which it was, even if there was good reason) or because as many PPs have said, she thought the OP and her partner were going to have sex in the cubicle.
