To ask you to be patient

A lot of businesses have staff off at the moment, and a lot more will have staff off in light of the new government advice for self isolation.
I work in a call centre, today we had maybe 60% of the staff that we would normally have for a Saturday. It was busy and with all the will in the world we can only deal with one call at a time.
All day I’ve been shouted at, I’ve been moaned at, I’ve been asked on pretty much every single call if I know how long they have waited. Yes funnily enough I do.
It will only get worse. A few people today said they were self isolating and using it as an excuse to catch up on admin and bills.
It sucks to wait in a long queue listening to crap hold music. But please just think it’s a person on the other end who is doing double the amount of work then normal. Who has the same stresses and strains and worries as you do.
My friend is a bus driver, they have a lot of staff off. They are doing their best but busses are running late/ being withdrawn. That’s not her fault. She is coming into work despite all of the risks because she knows without public transport the county will be in even more of a mess then it is at the moment.
My brother is a shop manager he has been verbally abused, he has been spat at all because people have gone mad and bought everything in sight. That’s not his fault he’s not hiding hand sanitizer or dried pasta in his office.

Please just be patient and be kind.

I'm a cleaner and have been shouted at by people for doing to much and causing panic, or not doing enough to protect them.

Someone even called me ridiculous for wearing gloves while cleaning Grin

I've just learned to smile and nod.

My kids have been late home all week and I explained it will be because the bus drivers have staff off due to corona. I’ve advised them to suck it up. You’re right, we could all be more patient anyway but especially now

I used to work in a call centre (years ago thank god) On Saturdays the cranks would come out of the woodwork from the minutes the lines opened until they closed.

I don't know what it was about that day, it was like people had been stewing on it and Saturdays was when they would go ballistic and a lack of staff didn't help.

Bank holidays were the same so I don't think its about the current situation more about service industries just not having enough staff.

I think it will be quite a shock to some of things really slow down, we live in quite an instant gratification society (24 hour shops, plenty of restaurants and bars in most town centres, can order almost anything online and get it the next day, can order food and groceries online to your door etc) - I expect a decent chunk of people might not react well if they can’t have the turnaround/service they’re used to.

Be kind whenever possible.

It’s always possible.

People are assholes. One,of my colleagues was grabbed by his work coat while this bloke yelled at him because there was no toilet paper and demanded to know what he was going to do about it. It's absolutely awful the way some people behave.

'Sorry I am having a technical issue I am just going to put you on hold....' two minutes time out for you for your bad behaviour

My best friends dh is a bus driver, they're having to stop after every half round and disinfecting all the poles, handles, bells etc. The buses here often don't turn up as it is, so folk are fucking raging.
