Reversing onto a zebra crossing?

Am I being unreasonable to think you should not reverse into a zebra crossing while it is being used by pedestrians (we were half way across the road) and the policeman who witnessed this, should not have supported driver's actions by declaring it's ok because he eventually stopped and didn't hit you!

Yanbu
I think we will see a lot more lax policing over the next few months.

jesus h christ. The policeman's number needs to be passed on to whoever runs these things, as well as that of the driver who should not be on the road.

I think it was the policemen's attitude that disturbed us the most - drivers can be arses but the police should really be discouraging dangerous driving instead of saying it's fine no one got hurt.

Someone reversed into MIL on a zebra crossing. She was fine but livid. The driver apologised and claimed not to have seen her or the many other people on the crossing but didn’t think reversing into the crossing itself was stupid.
