Rectal prolapse

Hi
After having a year and a half of what seemed to be excruciating IBS ( I’ve had it for years on and off ) I’ve finally been referred to see a surgeon and have been told I have a full thickness rectal prolapse. I guessed it was because I’ve taken a photo to see what was there that I was feeling after attempting a toilet movement.
I am being referred to have a camera exam but the Dr kept telling me that he doesn’t know
Why I’ve got one as I’m only 45!
I’ve always done pelvic floor exercises since I was a teen so I think I am just asking if any of you suffering the same would mind sharing how you deal with it and what the surgical outcome was/is.
Many thanks

My DD has one of these but not as severe as yours sounds. She has Ehlers Danlos syndrome and rectal prolapse is one of the symptoms of this. Maybe worth checking out as lots of people have ED but don’t realise.

I don't think YABU for having this medical condition.
I do think YABU for posting it on AIBU.

They think I have this, but the colo-rectal surgeon disagrees (despite my photo). His reasons for disagreement appears to simply be my age (33 at time of referral). They are refusing to do more...

That’s so unfair just because of your age , surely they can refer you to a specialist rather than leave it to get worse :(

Clairecat4474 · 13/03/2020 20:07

Oops I did post it to wrong thread
Thank you

Ah I hope she is managing it and isn’t in pain , I will look this up thank you as I am not too knowledgable at all

I'm 36, had one for around 4 or 5 yrs. Gp basically fobbed me off, said I am young and to keep doing exercises and not to get constipated..
To be honest, I think surgical repair doesn't last long so they don't like to do it young. I manage mine well enough but it gets me down sometimes. Key for me is to never be constipated. But I get constipated period each month..
