Sorry I am so out.of the loop with these type of things.

Year 3 DD asking for it and all my instincts say absolutely NOT.

But it seems some of her classmates have it or so they say.

(Not sure if they do or whether it is their elder siblings)

TikTok is a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming. It is used to create short lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos. The app was launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in markets outside of China.

Sounds pretty shit then.

RedRed9 · 11/03/2020 19:55

You don’t need TikTok yourself to see what it’s like - go on YouTube and search it to educate yourself.

She’s Year 3. Too young for social media.

whiskeylullaby2 · 11/03/2020 19:56

Essential it's an app where you can share video clips.

You can download it and view it without setting up an account. I would suggest you do that and use it for a few days.

IMO she is far to young for any social media. But it's your call!

It’s an app where you can share video clips to paedophiles.

Random18 · 11/03/2020 20:03

She is too young for social media and shes a few years off from getting a phone.

I was just surprised when she said her friends had it - but that may be a fib!

It's just an app, so if she doesn't have a phone, she won't be able to access it anyway ?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 11/03/2020 20:06

I'm sure it's an age 12+ isn't it so year 3 is far too young to have access to it.

GreenWheat · 11/03/2020 20:10

I think TikTok is 13+. Your daughter is far too young and you are right to say no. In my experience when it comes to social media, games, phones etc and your child tells you that "everyone" has a certain thing, it's actually only about 2 of them!

Ask your school if they have e-safety events led by police. We had one and it was invaluable. Tik Tok is one of the worst, apparently. But the apps fall in and out of favour pretty quickly, so Tik Tok will be replaced by something else quite soon.
