I had just finished work this afternoon and got DS from nursery. I went into my local supermarket who I'm a regular at and generally have a good experience there.

DS was sitting in the trolley. I bought some alcohol.. ''Sorry, can't serve you that'' I asked why not, I have ID if you need it. The woman said ''Yes but does the person you're with?'' I asked if that was a joke and she said no, with a very straight face. I said fine then and the alcohol was put aside.

I then go to the kiosk for my lottery ticket for Friday. The man there asked for ID, so I provided it Hmm He then said he couldn't remember what the cut off point is, as in the younger year to make me old enough to buy a ticket, so said he'd have to wait for his manager to confirm who's on lunch. I said ''Forget it jobsworth'' and left.

Was I really that unreasonable? I still feel quite annoyed at the sheer stupidity!

I just can't imagine being so foolish

Op there are plenty people out there who aren't very bright or very switched on. There are many who are foolish, lazy and many jobsworths as well. Welcome to the world.
As far as jobsworths go usually they are like this because theyve either cocked up before and on a thin line or they have had to many piss takers and they are sick of them.

You were a bit grumpy mind, getting id checked even by people not so bright goes with the territory for booze lotto and tabs so I would try and grin and bear in more.

@DieSchottin93 Think 30?! How ridiculous. A 25 year old and a 30 year old don't normally look worlds apart in age.

I really don't understand Think25 either, Think21 maybe. But why 25? Makes no sense to me.

The year we're in doesn't exactly make it rocket science to work out the correct DOB either.
20-18 = 2, Anyone with a DOB of (current day) 2002 or below is old enough.

The fact that people born in 2002 are old enough to buy alcohol makes me feel veryyyyy old.

The first woman was unreasonable but YABU to call the man a jobsworth, he was just trying not to get in trouble

How? She had ID.

randomchap · 13/03/2020 07:38

YABU simply for insulting someone. He made a mistake but that does not give you the right to insult him. Such a horrible entitled thing to do. As you are a regular there you should apologise to him next time you are shopping.

Yabu. The guy on the kiosk didn't deserve your sharpness. You should surprise him by apologising.
Customer's think they can take a bite off retail or customer staff afterall they're serving you. The higher cost of the product gives better leeway to the customer to be dicks.
I often hear a threat to close an account or take business elsewhere so staff can groval some folk enjoy the power trip.
