Was I wrong?

At the checkout queue earlier, I asked the man behind me if he’d like to go in front of me - he had about 4 items, I had a trolley full. He gratefully accepted.

But the woman behind him said “you may have time to spare, not all of us do”.

I just said I was sorry and turned away. I’ve never thought of it from her point of view before, I’ve always thought I was doing a helpful thing.

Don’t do it in future or carry on as usual?

You were being nice, she was just rude.
Carry on being nice and ignore the miseries in the world.

AryaStarkWolf · 11/03/2020 13:51

If she was behind him what difference did it make, you and him were both going to be before her either way? If he was behind her then maybe she has a point but it doesn't read that way from your OP

Honeybee85 · 11/03/2020 13:51

It didn’t effect her waiting time.

If he had been behind her, I wouldn’t have been happy about it either if I were in her shoes.

It seems in this situation she doesn’t understand how it works or was looking for a reason to complain.

outnumberedmummy · 11/03/2020 13:52

It makes no difference to her

DingleberryRose · 11/03/2020 13:53

It wouldn’t make any difference to the daft bat!! She was just pissed off you didn’t ask her to go ahead too! Grin

tiggerkid · 11/03/2020 13:53

I often offer people, who have hardly anything to buy go before me or people with crying babies. Don't see anything wrong with that. The lady behind you needs to have her logic examined as she wouldn't have been any faster even if the man behind you stayed where he was.

redastherose · 11/03/2020 13:53

She's a moron who doesn't understand how time works Grin

Carry on doing the nice thing and ignore the batshit woman.

Honeybee85 · 11/03/2020 13:54

@DingleberryRose

Laughing out loud here about daft bat 😂😂😂😂😂

Thanks for the inspiration Grin

Firsttimelottie · 11/03/2020 13:55

You didn't need to apologise to her OP - it made no difference to her what order you were served!

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 11/03/2020 13:58

She clearly isn’t a very intelligent woman, and rude to boot!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 11/03/2020 14:00

Doh!

RedskyAtnight · 11/03/2020 14:03

So she had to wait the 10 seconds it took to have this conversation and for him to walk round you extra?

Extremely unreasonable of you.

Lynda07 · 11/03/2020 14:03

You did the right thing, the woman who made the remark was ungracious - especially as it made no difference to how long she had to wait anyway.

Take no notice. I've often done the same and also had it done for me, it's quite normal - the nasty woman is not!

PardonWhat · 11/03/2020 14:04

Hahahaha!!
I bet she’s sat somewhere replaying what she said curling her toes Grin

TheReluctantCountess · 11/03/2020 14:04

She’s got issues. You did a nice thing.

mnthrowaway202020 · 11/03/2020 14:05

I think it’s a rude way of forcing you to let her in front of you too.

user1493413286 · 11/03/2020 14:06

It made no difference to her so she’s a bit weird to be honest

lazylinguist · 11/03/2020 14:07

She's thick as mince. You were being nice and it made no difference to her at all.

Daet · 11/03/2020 14:09

Yes the man was in front of the woman who complained.

It didn’t make sense to me either but i thought I must’ve been overlooking something!

OP posts:
LouiseCollina · 11/03/2020 14:09

What a silly cow! I'd have had real trouble not making an absolute show of her on this one!

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 11/03/2020 14:09

I’m a bit disappointed that you didn’t realise at the time that she was, to quote a pp “a moron who doesn’t understand how time works” and tell her so, along with an explanation that it made zero difference to how long she’d have to wait!

gamerchick · 11/03/2020 14:10

If he directly behind you then fine, swapping places doesnt affect her at all.
If he was behind her then yeah, that would have rankled a bit.

a moron who doesn’t understand how time works

Grin well summarised.
AryaStarkWolf · 11/03/2020 14:16

Yes the man was in front of the woman who complained.

Then I really don't get her logic at all Grin
