AIBU to put my DC in matching clothes?

Just out of curiosity really. I put my pair in matching clothes the majority of the time. 19 months between them. Mainly because it’s just easier when buying clothes to buy two of each. Just wondered how many people think it looks a bit naff and how many people do/would do the same as me?

I do this on occasion, and couldn't give a toss if it's naff!

DD4 absolutely loves wearing the same outfit as her little sister. It's very sweet.

WingBingo · 11/03/2020 17:35

I voted YABU but it did tickle me on the 2 occasions I have done it.

I'm not a fan. Children need to be individuals, develop their own taste, learn to make choices about what they like /don't like. I think I have a very strong opinion on this as I have twins whom I'm raising to be individuals. They are literally chalk and cheese!

Good for you, you're absolutely right.

Mine have the odd matching jumper (often knitted by Granny) or coat or hat or something because they ask for it. I've actually found it useful a few times, we were out on our bikes one day and oldest had gone off ahead and I send to youngest 'oh don't know which way your brother went now we have to hurry up' and a man walking past in other direction said 'he went that way' due to the distinguishing matching coats, very handy.

I only do it if they want to wear same thing thought

GreenTulips · 11/03/2020 18:21

My Dd1 (age 5) loses her shit if her sister (2) is wearing something different to her which i hate because shes now into a size that has more (and I think nicer!) choices

And does the second child get a choice or do you just appease the older one?

Remmy123 · 11/03/2020 18:51

No you shouldn't I really don't like kids dressing the same

PeachandBee · 11/03/2020 18:58

My girls have the occasional matching/coordinating dress or jumper because they love it and find it funny. They ask to match. Dd1 waited so long for a sibling but the novelty will probably wear off soon, they're 3 and 10 this year.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 11/03/2020 18:59

I can understand somewhat when people dress twins the same, for novelty value I suppose - but I actually find it a tiny bit creepy, don't know why!

Whe the DC are different ages it's just naff - all kinds of wrong. But they're your DC, so knock yourself out. They'll be old enough to voice their own opinions on it all soon enough.

BimbleWimble · 11/03/2020 19:33

Mine are often matching or coordinated. It helps me spot them at groups, and other people realise they are together and both with me.

Thehop · 11/03/2020 19:34

I really love it! Looks so cute! I did it until my boys were out of nappies, and really miss it

Cocobean30 · 11/03/2020 19:38

My dad and step mum used to do this me and my younger sister and I absolutely hated it

mamatobabybears · 11/03/2020 21:16

Not at all, I love a bit of matching. As long as the children aren't complaining, I don't see an issue.

penmanship · 12/03/2020 05:32

doesn’t really matter what ‘point’ you’re making - people see children dressed the same (or not) they don’t have the benefit of your internal thoughts about it.

@terrorwig You keep misunderstanding what I’m saying, I can’t tell if you’re being deliberately obtuse or not. I wasn’t saying that I dress my children as some kind of statement, I was referring you back to the point I made in my original post, which was that I think it looks naff when people deliberately dress their kids the same. Hmm

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 12/03/2020 06:01

I love them in matching clothes.

TerrorWig · 12/03/2020 21:18

@Penmanship that’s not a point that’s an opinion.

The point I was referring to was about the children being individuals (another reason you dressed them differently I assume as you mention it?), and how matching babygros is apparently acceptable because ‘you give no fucks’.

You’d probably have realised this if you’d read my entire post and not just the bit that name checked you.

Darbs76 · 12/03/2020 21:20

You’ll get a mixed response. Maybe for an odd photo but day to day no. My friend does it for special occasions but her kids are 8 and 4 and I think it’s silly. They are individuals

TerrorWig · 12/03/2020 21:23

That was unnecessarily snarky. I apologise.

Cheerfullygo4 · 12/03/2020 21:51

Poor children. Let them have their own style. Even worse is the whole 'mummy and daughter' matching dresses, usually in some cutesy print. Why on earth would you want to dress to match a toddler. Just weird.

ferntwist · 12/03/2020 22:12

YANBU it’s super-cute and makes it easy to spot them in a crowd

Celeano · 13/03/2020 09:19

ugh- a pet hate of mine, they’re people not dress up dolls
