How to broach my neighbours about the fact their cannabis is making my house stink!!

More of a what should I do, than am i being unreasonable. We live in a ovely village, in a semi-detached house. Most nights the smell of cannabis wafts through our loft hatch from the neighbours house next door, it is incredibly pungent and not sure if they are growing it in their loft or not (it comes through the adjoining loft wall) or just smoking. Our neighbours are a very nice family with two children and I think would be motified if we mentioned it, but in all honesty it's making my house stink and my children's bedrooms stink of weed. a) would you broach the neighbours about it and b) how?!

Just knock on their door and tell them and ask them to sort it out.

My dd had her garden stinking all last summer because of the potheads a couple of doors down. She e mailed the police in the end, don’t know what come of it. Wait and see what it’s like this year I guess.

Get the police to broach it....

As it's coming through the loft hatch, they're most likely growing it. I'd report to the police.

@agapanthus1979 police won’t do anything if it’s in a property. Community space then they’ll help. We have the same issue.

Get draught excluder type stuff for your loft hatch.

police do help if in a private property. they raided the flat downstairs. they might have done this just to get the rest of the neighbours to shut up complaining about it.

We had similar a few summers ago when we were living in an apartment building. Some lads on the same side of the complex as us had quite the habit during the summer- it was dreadful as it was about 5 million degrees outside so we needed to keep the windows open but I was pregnant with the nose of a blood hound. I remember putting my bedding outside to air one day and when I brought it back in it smelled like Seth Rogen.

I eventually emailed the letting agent, who wanted to know what apartment it was as it was against the terms of the lease. I declined to tell them as I didn’t want them getting turfed out over a bit of weed, so the agents ended up sending an email to all residents and the lads took the hint.

My old neighbours (woman, bloke and their 20 year old son), the son smoked weed in the garden. Didnt bother me so much though winter when the door was barely open but then summer came and the house stank, my eldest kept asking me what's that smell etc. I just popped my head over the fence and asked him if he would mind smoking it elsewhere as the kids were playing and the smell was getting in my house. I got a sorry love I'll smoke elsewhere. He did.

If they're growing it (which is the smell is coming through the loft I'd say they are) the police would be interested. If you rang up and said the neighbours are smoking weed and it smells. They wont be interested.
