To go get baby’s movements checked out?

Some might sigh to read this and say ‘just go’ but I’m wondering if I’m just being a hypochondriac. I’m 34 weeks tomorrow and the past two days I haven’t noticed as many movements, and they’re not as strong either. However yesterday I slept in late, and was taken straight out for my surprise baby shower and didn’t get home til late. I put my straps on and felt some movement, so I stopped worrying. Today they’ve still felt like less, I have felt him but it just doesn’t feel the same. But because I have actually felt him I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. Would IBU to go get checked out or should I stop worrying?

Also, any tips on how to get him moving more?

FFS go now!

PickettBowtruckles · 09/03/2020 19:24

Please please go and get checked. Don’t try tips to get him moving, just go and get checked. Even if you feel him move, get checked. Any change in pattern is worth checking.

PhilsOsophy · 09/03/2020 19:24

Any change in movement needs to be checked, even just for your own peace of mind. Please go get seen.
To get baby moving, lying on your side, ice cold drink is supposed to work.

Go and have him checked. It is never wasting anyone's time!

ikeakia · 09/03/2020 19:25

I ended up having my son 4 weeks early just for reduced movements. You really cannot take the chance.

RandomMess · 09/03/2020 19:25

Yes you must go any changes in usual movements is an indicator that things could not be ok!

Edwardbear1 · 09/03/2020 19:25

Better to be safe than forever sorry.

Anything unusual get it checked, however silly you think it is.

It’s not worth thinking about the what ifs.

Thebig3 · 09/03/2020 19:28

You will never be wasting anyones time. Go and get checked now. Dont leave it till the morning either.

Sunshinelollipops1 · 09/03/2020 19:30

You aren’t wasting anyone’s time. Call the hospital. I guarantee they will say come in.

Enchiladas · 09/03/2020 19:37

CandleFlames · 09/03/2020 19:38

Thanks everyone. I’ve just called and yes they have told me to go in so I’m just going to get dressed and go.

Midwife here - you are never wasting our time and we’d always want to see you.

Hope all is well.

Pentium85 · 09/03/2020 19:39

I’m not even going to read your full post.

OP, if ever the movements cause you to find the time to ask someone else, GO AND GET CHECKED

We are not doctors on here. If you doubt yourself or your baby, go to hospital.

Please.

Hope everything is OK. I always trot out this same story but my baby's movements slowed down at 31 weeks. I worried all day I was over reacting and eventually went in that evening to get checked. They delivered him via csection an hour after I arrived as he was very poorly. He's fine now, spent a month in NICU but is now a robust 2 year old. Always go in. Always.

grudieabbey · 09/03/2020 20:04

I absolutely despair at posts like this. If your child is at risk you GO. doesn’t matter if you’re over reacting or it’s nothing - you go. If there is ANY doubt you go.

Don’t post. Don’t ask around. Don’t wait an hour. GO.

I hope all is well. If this was a ‘wasted trip’ don’t let that cloud your judgement next time. If you have a doubt the next day or the next week etc you GO BACK. doesn’t matter if it was nothing last time - GO.

AlexTheLittleCat · 09/03/2020 20:06

Hope everything is ok. It's probably fine but always go in for reduced movements, no matter how many times it happens, even if it's the next day after a previous episode. They always prefer you go in and get checked out.

I ended up having my baby after reduced movements, the day after having a scan saying everything was well. Baby wouldn't be here if I hadn't gone in, I was very lucky.

The NHS now have a set of guidelines for staff called Saving Babies Lives, part of it is monitoring reduced movements, timing of growth scans etc.

Whatsername177 · 09/03/2020 20:36

Go. They will put you on a trace and scan you if they need to. I understand your feelings. I did the same as you - worried I was being a pain or a hypochondriac. I went in at 39+6. They decided to induce me and my dd was born with her cord wrapped around her neck. She was fine, because I ignored my brain and listened to my gut.

Enchiladas · 09/03/2020 20:38

I hope all is well OP

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/03/2020 20:39

Hope everything is ok OP.

showmewhatyougot · 09/03/2020 20:45

Glad your going to get checked now, hope everything is ok x

Needsawakeupcall · 09/03/2020 20:48

Many years ago I felt no movements, went in & got checked & all was well. Midwife still said it was better to be safe than sorry Hope everything is ok, please let us know how you and baby are.

mollymoggs · 09/03/2020 20:51

Please go now. Also insist on a scan. A woman I know went in repeatedly for reduced and changed movements, they said baby was fine as heard heartbeat and then she stopped moving and next time she went baby had no heartbeat. Cord was wrapped in a true knot round her neck. Stillborn at 39 weeks. So sad and she's never got over it. I don't want to scare you. Just to prevent anything like this happening to you.
