To ask at what age you bought your "forever" home?

Myself and DP bought our first home last Spring (at 29 years old). We had DD1 already when we bought it and DD2 arrived at the end of last year. The house is a new build in a nice estate, about 30 minutes from my hometown. I just don't know if it's our "forever" home. It's in a nice quiet area, schools etc. all around are lovely.

I'd like to know what age you were when you bought your forever home? Perhaps I just feel we are still so young to be tied to the same property for the rest of our lives, and maybe one day we will want something bigger/better.

It's a poor choice of expression but I think what OP is trying to convey is the point at which you are able to buy a house because it's exactly what you need,

But needs change surely?

Well if you define it like that User then never. Pretty much none buys a house without some element of compromise do they?

  1. Been here 18 years. Don't love it but was brilliant location wise when the kids were young. Could have done with moving when they got older but we both hate change and fuss. They're of an age now when we are starting to consider an empty nest and it's a good size for that. We've just redecorated to make it easier to manage as I have mobility issues. Will probably be here until something major prompts a move.

Hmm, 32 when we bought our current home, it’s a 4 bed detached with a good sized garden in an area that suits us for schools/transport links. We don’t imagine moving again, until/unless we are old/infirm.

I think what OP is trying to convey is the point at which you are able to buy a house because it's exactly what you need, rather than a house that's a bit of a compromise because you can't stretch to exactly what you'd like.

I'm with @Porcupineinwaiting
I don't think that house exists.
Whatever your budget, there is always a compromise.
Each time I've bought, I could see properties that were just a bit over what I had to spend, and that is the case when I spend an hour browsing Right Move with my imaginary lottery win these days.
There is always some compromise when you buy a house - usually budget driven, but even then you have hundreds of thousands like they usually do on Escape to the Country, there are always thing about the most beautiful of properties that people don't really like.

I'm still waiting for my forever home.

We are thinking of moving as I'm not a huge fan of the area but I love my house 😭

Not yet ! I’m 59 and have bought six houses I think, and I can’t say for sure that I’ve finished yet ... I like moving house🤣
