Can anyone help me get a better deal on my Vodafone contract?

I basically use my phone as a phone but now and again the kids use it to stream Netflix. Obviously need photo storage.

Any tips on getting a better price? I'm currently charged appropriately £50.0 a month.

I'm leaving Vodafone too - after my DH and DS moved to them, it became really clear that they had been taking the absolute piss out of me after years of loyal customer. GiffGaff is the way forward OP.

Pilot12 · 09/03/2020 09:03

If your contract with Vodafone is up, search the internet for the best deal/one you want then call them and tell them you want to leave because you've found this great deal with another Company. They should match the deal that you want or offer a better one.

When my contract ended a found a great deal with 02, I called Vodafone and asked them if they'd match it. They made me a better offer!

Sleepycat91 · 09/03/2020 09:04

I used to work for vodafone, end of the month over the phone usually gets better deals. If your phone is okay, drop to a sim only. Much better amount a month

Sleepycat91 · 09/03/2020 09:05

Webchat has worked out well for me too, be sickenly nice usually makes a difference, i know i was always more willing to go that extra mile for someone who was polite

RJnomore1 · 09/03/2020 11:38

There’s absolutely no way anyone can fairly comment until op tells us what she’s getting for £50!

Iphone 11 and 190gb - amazing
Sim only 6gb - total rip off
😁

Falcor40 · 09/03/2020 12:01

I've been with 3 since I was 20 or so

I've got the latest iPhone which is £40 a month. Unlimited calls text and data.

mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 12:04

Yes, this thread is pointless as no one knows what tariff OP is getting for £50 or whether that includes a handset or extras.

Nor do we really know what you do with your phone data - are you specifically streaming Netflix with mobile data? How much data do you currently have, and how much do you want?

Why is photo storage “obviously” relevant for a network tariff - photos are saved to the handset’s storage? Photos can be alternatively uploaded to the cloud but this uses a relatively low amount of mobile data so shouldn’t really be a tariff consideration, especially as you can set it to only upload over WiFi.

I’m with Vodafone and negotiated a unbelievably good deal for my iPhone XS when it was newly released, but this was due to having an ongoing serious complaint so they went above and beyond.

strawberrylipgloss · 09/03/2020 12:05

We need some more details.

Do you want a phone upgrade?
How many gb of data do you use atm?
Why do you want to stick with Vodafone? You can have the same number on a different network?

OhioOhioOhio · 09/03/2020 17:42

Sorry. Just back. I honestly don't know what I'm getting for my 50 quid, or what I need?

The main question is whether you are out of contract.

PleasantVille · 09/03/2020 17:55

I'm not surprised you're stuck if you don't know what you currently have or what you need Confused

How exactly do you think a stranger can help you?

I'm very surprised you can't find all the options online, surely you'd at least start with earphone warehouse to see what deals are available so you have something to compare with.

OhioOhioOhio · 09/03/2020 18:46

I need the phone to make calls, WhatsApp, photos, photo storage and the odd 20 minutes of Netflix

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 09/03/2020 18:53

Do you have the Vodafone app?

BumbleBeeFlower · 09/03/2020 19:04

If you just want a sim only deal then look at VOXI. They do really good deals. I think I pay £20 per month for unlimited calls, texts, social media and 45gb but just seen they are doing a special deal for 60gb for £20 a month.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 09/03/2020 19:08

I think this is pretty basic stuff for today's phones. Once you're out of contract get a SIM-only deal (about £15 a month) and run your current phone into the ground and then replace it with any cheap Android phone by buying the phone outright (you can get a phone for less than £100 these days).

OhioOhioOhio · 09/03/2020 19:14

Thank you. What's different about sim only?

If I get Netflix do they charge you according to how many minuted you have watched? I understand you can switch to mobile data but don't really know how I'd do that?

OP posts:
mnthrowaway202020 · 09/03/2020 19:24

Sim only is a calls/texts/data contract - no handset included.

No, Netflix has its own monthly subscription cost, you pay them to access their content the amount of minutes is irrelevant. You can stream Netflix for free on WiFi, but it will use large amounts of mobile data without a WiFi connection.

RJnomore1 · 09/03/2020 19:26

I’ll ask again

Do you have the Vodafone app

SudokuQueen · 09/03/2020 19:37

If you're insisting on staying with Vodafone, then go on compare the market or go compare, select what you need (unlimited data, unlimited texts and however many minutes you want) and then phone Vodafone and tell them you can get it cheaper at x provider and what can they give you.

If they can't do better, switch to better provider.

SudokuQueen · 09/03/2020 19:42

A quick search in the last few mins shows me you are being ripped off highly. You can get unlimited data, mins and texts for £18 a month with 3 on a sim only deal. So if you want to keep your phone, that's what you buy, a sim only deal.

If you want a new phone it will cost you more, that's why you will be paying £50. Because you are paying for the phone too. You generally get ripped off that way as you pay interest on the phone too. You're better off buying the phone outright and getting a sim deal.

To switch, you may have an outstanding amount to pay Vodafone to leave though. It depends on how long ago you took out the contract.

Pilot12 · 09/03/2020 19:46

I can't believe you don't know what you are currently getting from Vodafone - it tells you when you log into your online account, at the top of your paper bill and on the app. You will also have a contract either online or in paper form?

What phone do you have?

OhioOhioOhio · 09/03/2020 19:52

I have the Vodafone app.

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 09/03/2020 19:57

Can you look at the app. The first thing you see is the amount of data you have left abd the amount you get each month.

Tell us that.

Graphista · 09/03/2020 20:12

Impossible for us to answer without the right information.

For starters what phone do you have?

Are you still paying for the phone as in are you still within the contract for that?

Or are you only paying for usage?

How many mins calls, how many texts and how much data do you use each month?

I'm with Tesco and their app provides all this info whenever I need to check.

Only then can we say whether you're getting a fair deal or not. Personally I think £50 a month is a LOT!

With them a 24 month contract iPhone 11 max usage is £60 so I suspect you are being ripped off.

But if you're still mid contract it can be hard to extricate yourself

opticaldelusion · 09/03/2020 20:27

£50??? What phone? What data allowance? How long have you had the contract?

Generally it's far better to buy a handset and SIM only deal separately but no one can advise what you specifically need to do unless we know what you're paying for and when you contract ends.
