Bloke I’ve been seeing for 8 months. He says the weirdest phrases and says the strangest things I can’t get over my annoyance.

One of them is, he’ll yawn and then say “oh! I’m yawning well!”. Wtf does that even mean?? I’ve never heard it said before and he says it almost every day.
Another one is “we need to nip that in the bun” bun??!! I have told him that it’s bud but he carries on saying Bun. I find it annoying.

“Keep sure you do that” “keep sure to set your alarm” etc etc ... keep sure?!

Jellypeano on the pizza

There is other stuff too but relationship aside ... has anyone else heard of these sayings?? (Keep sure, yawning well etc)

My DH does this and I think it’s cute

You're going to have to be more pacific Smorgasbored0000

FurrySlipperBoots · 08/03/2020 19:04

Your OP made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! You won't get the last 8 months back but at least dump him and move forward as soon as possible!

bringincrazyback · 08/03/2020 19:09

Now, just to defend him a little bit, I have heard people say “ooh, you’re coughing well” when I have had a bad cold and am in the middle of a coughing fit.

I've heard this too, a lot, as I get bad coughs. So irritating!!

TaterWaffle · 08/03/2020 19:13

Babybel90

Argh. I knew a guy who would start everything with “Again, it’s...”, which had zero connection to what we were previously speaking about. Again, it got right on my tits.

MagnoliaJustice · 08/03/2020 19:13

One man I went on a date with said he had the 'snibbles' and when I queried it, he said "you know, the sniffles, I've got a cold" - That was the first and last date. I can't date a 43yo who refers to having a cold as either the sniffles or the snibbles, FFS, like a fully grown toddler. AAAARGH!

Weirdomagnet · 08/03/2020 19:16

@mitziK I can't breathe 😂

Triggahippy · 08/03/2020 19:22

I had a former boss who would say ‘let’s be Pacific’ or ‘ let’s play it by here’ both phrases still boils my piss now, even when said correctly

lolaflores · 08/03/2020 19:23

My fella has heard me snarting and laughing so popped his head round the door.. I have promised him a willy cuddle but only if he does a sexy horse trot for me. I simply cant get the image out if my head.
My my mum calls Friends With Benefit, French Benefits and I think it kinda works

MagnoliaJustice · 08/03/2020 19:25

French Benefits sounds quite cool and sophisticated, much better than a mate that I shag every so often.

datasgingercatspot · 08/03/2020 19:26

I dated this utter bellend from Glasgow who use to put on a fake English accent and say 'I'm British!' or try to imitate Sean Connery and call me 'Miss Moneypenny'. If I said the price of anything he'd ask, 'And how much is that in old money?' I dumped him before we got to sex by responding to his old money question with 'Who fucking cares, you weirdo?!'

BendyLikeBeckham · 08/03/2020 19:26

@QueenOfOversharing dragon butter. Never google it. Thanks MN

@bringincrazyback tbf I said it that way in my head as a teen because I'd never heard it said out loud and only ever seen it written in a book (thanks mum for that weird informative biology book you bought me for Xmas when I was 12 so you didnt have to sit down with me and explain about sex)

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 08/03/2020 19:27

Is he northern? For some reason reading these phrases I was imagining a Yorkshire accent etc

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 08/03/2020 19:27

I went to our local pet shop once and the lovely friendly owner kept referring to the toytoises I was interested in buying. Couldn't bring myself to go back there and am no longer a tortoise fancier. Apart from that I've lived a sheltered life.

eMmAsuper8 · 08/03/2020 19:29

Gonna need to know more about the sex I'm afraid GrinBlush

Some of the shit my partner (also of about 8 months) comes out with has me wanting to throttle him sometimes. The sex saves him lol

Geauxtigers · 08/03/2020 19:29

Is he northern Irish or Irish? They sound like phrases some people in Belfast use

DICarter1 · 08/03/2020 19:31

My dh sometimes say danke schön. He’s not bloody German. He has a lot of very rage inducing phrases.

QueenOfOversharing · 08/03/2020 19:32

@BendyLikeBeckham truffle butter. Dragon butter. Just fucking no.

crustycrab · 08/03/2020 19:33

"Can't breathe" at Mitzis passive aggressive behaviour? Really? Hmm

Really couldn't go that far out of my way to make someone feel so shitty and probably embarrassed. Just tell them if you don't like something.

Serin · 08/03/2020 19:33

I have a friend who says "yeah, yeah, yeah" at the end of other people's sentences.
Every sentence.

Also have a lovely Polish friend who gets phrases jumbled up all the time but in a sweet endearing way.
A stitch in time, saved mine Grin

Lobsterquadrille2 · 08/03/2020 19:34

Thanks for everyone who's reminded me about my ex with the "hey ho, the wind and the rain". He also liked "with a hey and a ho and a hey nonino" but I think he kind of sang that one.

Gonzalo from The Tempest. I was Ceres.

MaeveDidIt · 08/03/2020 19:38

It would irrate me and in 10 years time you'll probably want to throttle him or send him back to pre-school.
I used to know someone who would say the doctor-man, the spanner-man etc - it just sounded so thick to me.

Another one was 'I seen' it/him or whatever in the shop today.

I don't know if I am being a snob, but it made my ears cringe.

MerryDeath · 08/03/2020 19:40

it wouldn't annoy you if you were right together! dump him it's fine!

Showmeyourhero · 08/03/2020 19:40

Jellypeanos!! 🙈

ThatLibraryMiss · 08/03/2020 19:41

For some reason reading these phrases I was imagining a Yorkshire accent etc

Oi! Yorkshirewoman here. Fuck off with trying to pin that nonsense on Yorkshire!

I'm imagining an only child, or youngest, or only boy, or two of the three, whose Mummy thought he was cute.

PhoneTwattery · 08/03/2020 19:41

I once dumped someone after phone sex when he used the word “lapping?” 🤢
