"Treat Mum to a restful night"

The Mother's day promotion emails have started hitting my inbox... The White Company is all about treating your mum to a good sleep by buying expensive pjs....

I can't help but think this would never be the message in father's day promotion. It's a bit depressing that "sleep" is the most indulgent thing you can treat your mum to 🙄

Well if we will keep banging on about lack of sleep on here, this is what we are going to get.

And of course, it is totally reasonable to start harping on about Father's Day being much better, as if that is any less stereotypical.

IntergalacticSuperstar · 08/03/2020 11:37

Just our biology isn't it rather than societal sexism?

No...? It's not our biology to be knackered. I'm a mother and I sleep well.

JustFamily · 08/03/2020 11:44

That's one advert in a sea of them.
I'm sure beard trimmers are advertised as luxury for men, cos having a shave is a luxury... 🤷🏼‍♀️

namechanger2019 Felt exhausted just reading that !

Skyejuly · 08/03/2020 11:59

Pjs would make absolutely sod all difference to the level of sleep. If it did I would spend all my money!

doadeer · 08/03/2020 11:59

I haven't said I'm offended, that's far too strong a sentiment... I just said it's a little depressing that as women what we supposedly want most of all is sleep, and I queried whether this messaging would be used for men.

@ElizabethMountbatten

You just described my life.

1066vegan · 08/03/2020 12:10

I'm not really into Mother's Day. If I am asked what I'd like I either say nothing or a lie in and breakfast in bed (and then to be left alone so I can read in bed). I can't find anything in the advert to get offended by.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 08/03/2020 12:10

My lack of sleep is self inflicted (I stay up too late). Regardless, I would be thrilled to get these PJ for Mother’s Day 😊.

StoppinBy · 08/03/2020 12:11

I find it neither depressing or offensive.

Peace, quiet and a sleep in.........ahhh, perfect!

elenacampana · 08/03/2020 12:11

Oh behave OP - it's marketing and it’s done a good job because I’m going to get my mum some lovely White Company pjs for my own mum.

Thanks for the tip!

gingersausage · 08/03/2020 12:17

What @Prepenultimate said, with bells on!

@JonnyPocketRocket and some Zopiclone would be good too 👍🏻

FrogsFrogs · 08/03/2020 12:23

You should have posted on feminism op!

I get it's their thing but have never been in their shop so not sure what else they sell

Agree that it's wording is a bit sad

What women want more than anything else is just a decent night's sleep. And this is a luxury. Which can be solved with a certain pair of PJs?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 08/03/2020 12:25

Well I breast fed all 3 of my dc so DH couldn’t really do night feeds (dc wouldn’t take a bottle) and the baby wanted by breast, so yes I would of loved some sleep personally 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sleep wasn’t all I wanted 🙄 but it was certainly top 3

Being a mother to a young child especially a breast feeding one is exhausting

FrogsFrogs · 08/03/2020 12:26

I'm trying to remember what steak and blow job day was a response too. Even nice men seemed to be all hahaha to that.

Oh that's right it was valentine's Day, women get flowers / chocs as a standard, men want a BJ in return. Hmmm.

Anyway. I only just woke up, personally. Having a steak for lunch. No thank you to candles and pajamas Grin

FrogsFrogs · 08/03/2020 12:27

All the people saying sleep is all they want, only one day a year and sold as gift?

tallah · 08/03/2020 12:28

Gosh how miserable. The things people think to moan about are really baffling

GoldenOmber · 08/03/2020 12:28

I agree that decent sleep is a huge and wonderful luxury when you have young children.

And by ‘you’ I mean ‘women’, since for some weird weird reason nobody’s marketing an early night and some lovely pyjamas and a lie-in to dads for Father’s Day. Why is that?

Rosebel · 08/03/2020 12:28

I'd love a decent night sleep. Best present ever! Usually though Mother's day consists of waking to my children bickering about who's bringing breakfast up/cards up , then me doing all the usual chores that I do every Sunda.
Would love to lie in bed until whenever, then chill for the day.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/03/2020 12:29

FWIW I can remember when sleep was my greatest treat. I dare say a lot of parents of tinies would say the same.

It didn’t depend on fancy new pyjamas, though. Any scruffy old ones would have done.

TSSDNCOP · 08/03/2020 12:30

Have you ever owned White Company bedding and pyjamas and all the other stuff? It’s amazing! I like to wake up in the night and take a moment to enjoy it.

crosspelican · 08/03/2020 12:30

How on earth could The White Company pitch a hang gliding day though? They literally sell bedding & pyjamas.

Here is a Father's day blog post from a couple of years back - blog.thewhitecompany.com/live/fathers-day-gift-ideas/ - slippers, dressing gown, a plant pot (?), a cook book, a picture frame and a wine cooler. It's not like they're offer Mum a good night's sleep and Dad a chainsaw operated by dragons.

GloGirl · 08/03/2020 12:34

Yanbu OP.

Fathers day 2016 -

Take it easy at home dads, put your feet up and potter around the house in your slippers.

Women, have a restless nights sleep in some luxury sleep wear.

strawberry2017 · 08/03/2020 12:35

I would love someone to give me some restful sleep, currently 30 weeks pregnant, SPD, acid reflux, leg cramps at night abs now a stupid cough.
I haven't slept well in weeks!
