"Treat Mum to a restful night"

The Mother's day promotion emails have started hitting my inbox... The White Company is all about treating your mum to a good sleep by buying expensive pjs....

I can't help but think this would never be the message in father's day promotion. It's a bit depressing that "sleep" is the most indulgent thing you can treat your mum to 🙄

I think that their marketing team scoured MN to get an idea on what to promote......🤷

Greenmarmalade · 08/03/2020 10:26

Sleep is the biggest luxury. Every mother’s day there’s all this bickering about who is making what for my breakfast, who can bring it up, where we are going out, etc. if I was left to sleep in some new pjs, I’d be well happy!

Maybe this marketing campaign was just designed by a woman!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 08/03/2020 10:36

It’s The White Company. Their entire brand is about luxury and indulgence. Their Mothers Day marketing could equally be "Buy mum a scented candle and matching room spray!" But then somebody somewhere would get excited and think they were trying to hint that all mums want is a house that doesn’t stink.

This is just a case of moulding their product offer to fill a need created by a specially named day.

Look at their website...from page says "Treat her to gorgeous clothing, stylish pyjamas, jewellery and fragrance" So many lovely things on offer.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 08/03/2020 10:50

I would kill for some sleep.... Yeah that is what I'm would want for mothers day, sleep or a spa day just for myself. Just a relax!!!

TheVanguardSix · 08/03/2020 10:52

There is sleep and there is the "OMG I feel like a person!" sleep.

Yep. Life takes on a whole new meaning after one of those I Feel Like a Person sleeps. They're the best! I don't think even White Company pyjamas can offer this. I wouldn't say no to them though.

fiddledefiddle · 08/03/2020 10:55

The White Company is all about treating your mum to a good sleep by buying expensive pjs....

First world problem! They sell pyjamas so of course their message is about pyjamas, it's hardly worth getting het up over with everything else going on in the world.

Ellisandra · 08/03/2020 10:57

And yet, everything people ask about gifts on here, for women, for any reason.. lots of women always reply “a spa day”. So, if that’s all woman can think to do with their time - nothing - who can blame the retailers?

Next time you’re buying a gift for a friend or female relative, buy them theatre tickets, football tickets, an ice skating session, a intro climbing session, Go Ape...

Wa1kthisway · 08/03/2020 10:59

I agree!
Treat mum to an action packed weekend, half price on indoor assault course, gift of a new language course, some holiday vouchers etc are likely to be expensive but we are all different and therefore will want different things.

firstimemamma · 08/03/2020 11:02

If you don't like it then don't have it. I'd personally love that gift as would lots of other mums I know.

Soubriquet · 08/03/2020 11:02

I wouldn’t argue with this advertising

I would say the white company also researched what women want...and we want sleep!

Alb1 · 08/03/2020 11:03

This is daft, there entire business is based around this sort of stuff, they sell nice clothes... so shockingly yes they market it. If they were an outdoor adventure company I’m sure they would market fun mum experiences too. Also, some mums like this sort of stuff, and would like pajamas for Mother’s Day and breakfast in bed etc, what’s so wrong with that? Why’s that inferior to wanting beer or gardening stuff? Seems like picking something to complain about for the sake of being offended really.

BlueJava · 08/03/2020 11:07

YABU I'd far rather have some lovely PJs and sleep than beer and gardening! I think you're making a mountain out of nothing.

WorraLiberty · 08/03/2020 11:12

It looks like they're done their research well.

It's obviously aimed at husbands/partners though, as I don't imagine that little baby will be capable of ordering and paying for the PJs Wink

manybirdsnests · 08/03/2020 11:12

YANBU OP.

lovepickledlimes · 08/03/2020 11:13

@Ellisandra probably a lot of mothers and even some fathers just want a day of rest. If someone gifted me theater tickets, go ape or something 'fun' I would just groan inside while thanking them but thinking great another activity to cram in when I am already tired and just want an early night for once etc. Every woman is different and if the mother happens to enjoy this rather then some activity why not

BrandoraPaithwaite · 08/03/2020 11:19

Sleep is definitely what I want for Mother's Day, but I don't care about luxurious pjs, my dc will still wake me up no matter what I'm wearing in bed! A real sleep gift would be a night away in a hotel without dc, or just a family member taking over the night shift & get you with dc and letting me sleep with my earplugs in.

gamerwidow · 08/03/2020 11:22

To be fair sleeps a luxury all parents could probably do with. The best gift my DD could get me would be to piss off for the day Grin.
Love her to bits but I booked a week off of work last week to get a bit of time to rest and she got a bloody bug and was home all week with me.

strawberrylipgloss · 08/03/2020 11:24

I've noticed that supermarket Father's Day offers often involve promotions for steak and flowers for women. Personally I'm not a flower person at all but I'd love a nice pair of pjs

dottiedodah · 08/03/2020 11:26

Only yesterday we had a lady on here so shattered and desperate for some sleep ,she was asking for tips on day hotels in South London ! I think this is the reality for many Mums really .Most are exhausted and run ragged by work(inside home and out) ,Good old monthlies ,DC and DH! Sprinkle in a good dose of parental responsibilities as well for many Mums and we all need a good nights sleep or several!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 08/03/2020 11:28

I hear what you're saying OP.

But I don't want hobby stuff. I'm too tired.
I want sleep.

The thought of luxury bed stuff and PJ's and a nights sleep sounds fucking wonderful.

namechanger2019 · 08/03/2020 11:29

I would love some sleep

BlueVeins · 08/03/2020 11:29

TBH a good night’s sleep is EXACTLY what I want.

namechanger2019 · 08/03/2020 11:31

I don't really find it sexist really and I am up all night breastfeeding the baby and am pregnant too so am shattered. Just our biology isn't it rather than societal sexism? As I said... would love some sleep!

GeorgieSparks · 08/03/2020 11:31

YABU. Though it must be exhausting find offence in everything.
I have a 1 year old and would do anything for a good nights sleep!

Staywithmemyblood · 08/03/2020 11:35

For my first Mother's Day DH asked if there was anything special I'd like. I said I'd love a lie in. He looked puzzled. I asked if there was a problem with that and he said no, but was he thought a toy lion was a strange choice! Numpty! I got my lie in 😴
