For a young dc Tobermory ie balamory!

Arran
Craig Tara is cheap!

TitianaTitsling · 07/03/2020 22:07

Rural/seaside/holiday park?

Beingyellow · 07/03/2020 22:08

What sort of thing do you have in mind? And what age are your kids? Craig Tara can be fun but depends what you are after

TitianaTitsling · 07/03/2020 22:08

Southerness in Dumfries and Galloway

We go to Scotland a fair bit with dc (now 5 and 9)

Arran - lovely tiny island can drive round the whole thing in 2 hours. Nice beach (Pirnmill). Quiet.

Stonehaven- great playarea beach fish and chips. Outdoor pool (saltwater). Dunnotar Castle is fab. Close enough to Aberdeen if you want cinema or shops.

Newtonmore - highlands so stunning scenery. Highland Wildlife Park and Landmark Park both excellent.

Edinburgh - great city break. Camera Obscura and the underground city both excellent activities.

OhioOhioOhio · 07/03/2020 22:12

They are young primary age. Easy, cheap, fun, relaxed, no hassle.

Should add we also do Self Catering cottages so can't give any advice on holiday parks.

OhioOhioOhio · 07/03/2020 22:13

Any accommodation recommendations?

The Scottish kids go back to school mid August so if you are looking for a summer break the last week in August is usually much cheaper than the preceding 5 weeks.

DingDongDenny · 07/03/2020 22:43

I think we need a bit more detail - are you looking for

City/beach/country
Hotel/self-catering
Getting there by public transport/car

Scotland can offer a lot of very different experiences

RJnomore1 · 07/03/2020 22:44

Don’t do Craig Tara i live near and it’s rough

Stonehaven would be ideal.

OhioOhioOhio · 08/03/2020 07:56

We could go by car. The rest I guess would be dependent on price.

How far do you want to drive - some of the suggestions up thread involve quite a long drive depending on where you are now. Do you have an area of Scotland in mind, being quite a large, rural landmass knowing where you want to be generally can save long hours in the car.

GlassOfProsecco · 08/03/2020 08:06

What's your budget, OP?

There's loads to do in Arran & cheap accommodation here:

www.balmichaelglamping.co.uk/

Or Aviemore is great with loads to do but much further north.

The East Neuk of Fife (St Andrews) & surrounds- the university lets out student accommodation at cheap rates over the summer. Dundee is worth a trip from there.

AnaisB · 08/03/2020 08:08

I second arran. Highlands and lowlands in one island. Beaches. Crabbing. Museum. Lots for kids.

letsghostdance · 08/03/2020 08:08

Dumfries and Galloway definitely! Beaches, forests... It's great.

Craig Tara is the single worst place on earth, however. Don't do it to yourself.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/03/2020 09:02

Where are you travelling from?

crikeycrumbsblimey · 08/03/2020 09:02

Lots around Inverness but depends how high you want to go. Driving though so you have to not mind!
