Just giving scam?

Does the money raised on JustGiving go straight to the charity the money is supposed to be raised for?

I ask because I'm pretty sure someone I know has made a just giving page for a certain charity but I'm also pretty certain they will not be donating the money to said charity and are basically trying to scam people.

I can't really give too much detail but imagine Sam was doing a sponsored bike ride and Sam writes on his JustGiving page that he is doing a bike ride for charity and has set the amount to raise for £500 but there is no mention of that money actually going to the charity, Sam has basically made it sound like the £500 is payment for doing the bike ride iyswim.

The person has form for this and although I don't want to get into details and I can't prove it I'm pretty sure they used JustGiving donations before to buy something the money donated wasn't supposed to be used for.

If it is linked to the charities just giving page, it goes directly to the bank account of the charity - should have their charity logo on it and charity blurb.
If it’s a page that isn’t linked, and doesn’t have logo or charity reg number it might not.
If you have concerns, you could always screenshot the page and send to the charity and they can follow up

I haven't even thought about doing a screen shot, I will do that now thanks.

A lady near me has an ill daughter and set up a just giving page to take her daughter on holiday. Lots of people donated including me but the daughter never got her holiday the mum is a gambling addict and had gambled the money. The money from the go fund me goes straight into her bank at the expiry of the donation date. This was around 3 years ago. She had set up another just giving page in January this year about taking her daughter on holiday and people reported her and the just giving was removed. She now rants about it every day on Facebook. I think she thought the whole thing had died down but it hadn't people hadn't forgot. Her other daughter was the one who outed her mum about her gambling the money.

I am now really wary about donating to those pages

Although a lot of the people are genuine and there's some great causes i am just more cautious of what i donate to now

Oh that’s heartbreaking Hmmmm88

Oh dear, that's what I was worried about that the money goes into the person's bank account to then be 'donated' rather than going directly to the charity.
