A long soak in the bath

Am I unreasonable to think this is the least treaty of all the treats, and to not find it relaxing at all?

My bath is right next to my loo so it feels weird anyway even though my loo is clean. The water is hot at first then goes cold. Just lie there for a bit, wash myself, feel bored then get out.

Candles are precarious. I hate reading in the bath, the book gets wet.

LOVE a bath!

TheOneWithAnotherNewName · 06/03/2020 18:46

YANBU. Genuinely couldn't tell you the last time I had a bath. I'm 33 and can't remember having one in my adult life. I'd much rather get cosy on the couch or in bed to relax.

DontCallMeShitley · 06/03/2020 18:57

I am just out of the bath, not hours long soak but unhurried and I feel nice and clean. I timed it to that I could take my time, I don't read, light candles or drink wine in there, just rest for a bit and get clean, exfoliate etc.

HariboStarmix · 06/03/2020 20:06

I'm with you, OP. The idea seems nice but I get in, get bored and get out again within 10 mins. Don't remember the last time I had a bath.

Purpleartichoke · 06/03/2020 20:12

I’ll be getting into a nice hot tub this evening and watching indulgent on the tv (yes, I have one above the bath) or reading something on my waterproof kindle while my battery operated wax candles flicker their fake flames. It’s all in the setup.

I've had a rare bath tonight after DD went to bed. Halfway through she needed a wee and the cat wanted to come in. This pic is how I feel tonight.

Wallowing in water is not a fun activity, I can't stand baths.
I also don't like spas, damp places that cost a fortune where strangers poke at you, ewwww.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 20:16

I like the idea of a nice bath too but barely spend more than about 15 minutes in it before I start to feel too hot and get a bit bored.

Only time I spend much longer is if I'm ill and want to warm up.

ShrimpSymphony · 06/03/2020 20:17

YANBU but MN is obsessed with baths

megletthesecond · 06/03/2020 20:18

Yanbu. Baths are uncomfortable, boring and get cold in minutes.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 06/03/2020 20:21

Baths are amazing and relaxing. I can definitely spend at least an hour in there with a good book.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 20:23

I never feel clean after a bath. Just hot and bothered with a sweaty hairline.

contentedsoul · 06/03/2020 20:25

God No
I consider hot water my biggest luxury - Couldn't care less whats sat on the drive, where we shop or even what I wear!!! But hot soapy baths are my reason for working...I love them. I sometimes get up a hour earlier just to have a soak before the day begins.

Booberella9 · 06/03/2020 20:30

YABU, your bath clearly is not hot enough. Make it ridiculously hot.

If you can find some inspiringly scented bubble bath, use that and put a layer of bubbles on any exposed areas for insulation. Really works and less grotty than a flannel.

Close the loo. Drape a towel over it to hide it if you want. Don't look at it. Close your eyes and listen to the water as you swoosh it around a bit. Take some deep breaths.

Scbchl · 06/03/2020 20:34

When my eldest (15) was little, I could literally stay in the bath for an hour and a half after she was in bed. I'd just top up the bath when it was going colder. Then we moved into a house for a year that only had a shower 11 years ago and then into the house. I was so excited to go for a bath. Got in and within 5 minutes just wanted to get washed and get out. Iv tried maybe a couple of times a year since and just feel the same. Would rather just get a shower now and get into bed and read and not worry about my kindle getting dropped.

Verily1 · 06/03/2020 20:35

I love my baths

catinb0oots · 06/03/2020 20:36

@deux tell me more about these temperature maintaining Japanese baths

Growingboys · 06/03/2020 20:37

I've just got out of a long bath and loved every minute. But I have a very nice bathroom and am not near the loo - I can see that wouldn't be a treat at all.

I lie there and read my phone. I hate drinking or eating in the bath - it feels weird. But lying there on the phone to my mum or reading random shite on my phone is amazing.

Tonight I could hear my children raiding the freezer for magnums, the cupboard for mini cheddars, the fridge for pineapple juice... but I didn't care. Just so so nice to lie there and soak

Notabarbiegirl · 06/03/2020 20:46

I love baths too can stay in there for hours with a good book topping up the hot water.

CycleWoman · 06/03/2020 20:51

I love a bath!

Hot water (topped up now and then), wine/beer/nice fizzy drink, book/iPad/Podcast.

Treaclepie19 · 06/03/2020 20:52

I love a bath in theory but in practice I feel the same way. Doesn't help that I always end up irritated down below 😳😩 So I've given up with them. Which is such a shame as we have a lovely bath.

Sparklingbrook · 06/03/2020 20:57

Many years ago a gynaecologist said to me 'only add yourself to a bath'. He was not a fan of bubble baths/oils/bath bombs etc.

ednclouda · 06/03/2020 21:18

yay bath bombs wine a good podcast or stevie wonder blasting bliss bliss bliss

Treaclepie19 · 06/03/2020 21:18

@Sparklingbrook I've tried plain water baths and I'm not sure whether it's just sitting about in the shower gel while washing or whatever but it really doesn't stop it. Maybe I need to just soak in the warm water and then have a shower 😂
When our shower was broken I had to have a mini shower in the bath because i can't risk sitting in it.
