To want to buy hand wash

ChipsCheeseAndBeans · 06/03/2020 15:46

Not even after hand sanitiser. Just some hand wash as we are almost out. The shelves in my local supermarket are completely bare. There are not even any bars of soap left.

Feeling annoyed at the panic buying! Just shop as usual.

Saving the environment has gone out of the window as we bulk buy wipes, sprays, bleach etc etc.

cologne4711 · 06/03/2020 19:04

I've got loads of bars of soap thanks to my Arran Sense of Scotland Advent Calendar. They're little but last ages.

And Starbucks refusing to fill reusable cups.

More than offset by the cancelled flights.

Coulddowithanap · 06/03/2020 21:26

I do wonder what people were washing their hands with before.

Our local morrisons only had the expensive method hand wash left and not much of that. Plenty of toilet roll (didn't stock up lol)

Mustbetimeforachange · 06/03/2020 21:33

It was paracetamol & tinned tomatoes in our Tesco. Plenty of soap& loo roll. Oh, and yeast powder & bread flour/bread mixes.

Serin · 06/03/2020 21:35

My sister works in a pharmacy and they have hand sanitiser in stock but are limiting it to 3 bottles per customer.
Yesterday they had to call security to evict a customer who became verbally aggressive when they wouldnt let him buy the entire stock. Probably to flog at an inflated price on Ebay.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 06/03/2020 21:39

I quite enjoyed shopping in the Asda todayGrin
Half of crowds which is normally in. It was a blissGrin
Except that my favourite tuna cans were gone

beautifulxdisasters · 06/03/2020 21:41

I think this kind of thing is weirdly localised. I had an order from ASDA online (ASDA store it comes from is about 1.5miles away) where they "couldn't substitute" my handwash or bar soap - I assume that means there wasn't any available of any brand etc.

Aldi up the road had loads of bottles of handwash. But it's a viscious cycle as because I couldn't get any at ASDA I bought 4 as I'm worried about not consistently being able to get it when I need it over the next month or so...so if everyone who's going into Aldi is doing similar I'm sure their stock won't last long!

Cancelled flights won't offset the number of kids born later this year after people locking themselves up at home for god knows how long...Grin

The advice is to hand wash more Than you usually would.

For example. I have a 6mo, so I wash my hands quite Alot. When I first wake, after I change a nappy, before I prep any food, after I use the loo. But now we are Being told to wash hands more. So people are Using more and buying more.

I haven't stockpiled anything. Trying to do an online shop is.proving difficult with hand soap now though.and basic pasta.

beautifulxdisasters · 06/03/2020 21:42

However - no paracetamol in Aldi, but loads in ASDA! I think supply chains are just starting to get a bit messed up...

ragged · 06/03/2020 21:51

omg, people genuinely are paying up to £74/litre. (screenshots of Ebay sold listings) Shock. tbh, if foolish folk are willing to pay it, well, so be that.

Went to Costco tonight - they had no toilet rolls at all - normally there are pallet fulls of the stuff on the floor and more on the racking! They also had little to no liquid hand soap but still had stacks of imperial leather and dove bars!

They also had tonnes of spam.

Bought a box of wine - just in case!

goodytooshoes · 06/03/2020 22:01

I had genuinely run out of bleach, toilet roll, kitchen roll, kitchen spray, furniture polish, fairy liquid, rice and pasta. I felt like I had to explain this when I did my usual weekly shop this afternoon. Confused I even FELT like a hoarder!!

FrangipaniBlue · 06/03/2020 22:03

I realised tonight that the hand wash in the bathroom and washing up liquid in the kitchen are both at the point I'd normally re-buy (few days worth left).

Checked the cupboard and we're out of bar soap (I don't use it so DH took the last of it away with him).

I have a travel size shower gel in my gym bag.

Now normally this wouldn't be an issue - but because of all the stupid panic buying I'm guessing I'm going to have a mare and have to give up a good chunk of my Saturday tomorrow finding replacements.........

DressingGownofDoom · 06/03/2020 22:07

People here are stingy, all the 55p ibuprofen is sold out in my local Tesco but there's a shelf full of £2.75 Nurofen Grin

DressingGownofDoom · 06/03/2020 22:09

'Now normally this wouldn't be an issue - but because of all the stupid panic buying I'm guessing I'm going to have a mare and have to give up a good chunk of my Saturday tomorrow finding replacements.........'

Just buy a big bath wash or shower gel and fill your little bottles from it. It's the same thing.

Wotsitsarecheesy · 06/03/2020 22:15

As a previous poster said, stocks of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol have been problematic for the last few months, so nothing to do with Coranovirus. My local (big) Tescos has regularly been out of both certainly since before Christmas.

First rule of panic buying - it's always other people. You're just being sensible and stocking up.

Msgiggles30 · 06/03/2020 22:29

Loads of hand wash on Ebay for like £6 when its £1 normally. Insanity Hmm. Seem to have had an issue with paracetamol and ibuprofen here in South Wales since around November though so must be something else affecting that too not just Corona.

Isla727 · 06/03/2020 23:27

YANBU. Try bar soap, shampoo (it's basically soap) , washing up liquid for handwashing

In seriousness though, I'm contemplating going at 6am because I don't want to be seen buying everyday washing products and accused of "panic buying" ConfusedConfused

Isla727 · 07/03/2020 00:32

I usually get through two packets of 'Carex' each day; that's nothing to do with Coronavirus but people could well think we're stockpiling.

Rosehip10 · 07/03/2020 00:42

A large sainsburys in Sw London had no toilet paper, no soap, no pain killers, no vitamin c last night.

Panic buyers are loons.
