To want them to use my name?

Just started a new job.

I have always been known by my middle name (I don’t know why my parents did this, but they did.)

However, even though they know I am known by my middle name, my email account and work ID have my first name on it, which means I’m getting addressed as my first name.

I HATE my first name. I really can’t stand it. AIBU to think I should have the name I’m known by?

Tell them there has been an error and they need to change it. Best get it done soon before you've been there too long.
And don't listen to any nonsense that it can't be done. A place I used to work tried that shit, had set it up as e.g. 'Katherine' instead of 'Kathryn'.

So change it by deed-pole!???
If I got an email from Micheal John Smith, I would call him Michael.
If you really want this then you need to sign off emails with your middle name and pull people up every time they get it right wrong!

Have you spoken to them about it? Can you change the ID to show your middle name and have your first name as an initial?

InfiniteSheldon · 06/03/2020 13:33

Only you can solve this! If I'm told someone name is Bob I'll be calling them Bob.

Yes, get on to them straight away and get it changed. They can do this, because they must be used to women changing their surnames on marriage.

Mymiddlenameismyname · 06/03/2020 13:36

The thing is hells I work in the sort of place I need to keep explaining any name change. Fair enough in marriage but ‘my parents were dicks’ not so much.

All emails and bank accounts are in my middle name. Just passport and birth certificate that aren’t.

Hardly a customer-focused IT department then.

Doesn't bode well for the future.

What did they say when you told them to change it? I used to work with someone who did the same as you've done with her name and it wasnt a big deal for the company to change it so I can't see why yours wont.
