To ask why people do this?

I’ve noticed this quite a lot in varying circumstances but the small penis thread reminded me of a man I once dated who used to say “I bet he’s got a small penis” as an insult about other men. I was then quite baffled when we slept together and he had the tiniest penis I’d ever seen!
I also know of a guy who posts constantly about how bad it is to cheat/how awful guys are to girls etc but actually he’s a prolific cheat and treated his long term ex absolutely appallingly.
What is this about?

Deflecting probably. I think they put other's down to make themselves feel better, or to put people of the scent that they actually also have a tiny penis or is a prolific cheat. Sad really.

I thought this too but just seems so odd to make out like having a small penis is a bad thing when inevitably I was going to find out his own one was tiny

Maybe he didn't know his was tiny?

Yeah, I guess that's silly. I assume boys know exactly where they stand in the order of things.

Maybe he thought by saying others have a small penis, you'd think his was bigger.

An epic lack of self awareness?

Maybe to open up a discussion about the topic in hand( lol) ie, to find out your feelings about penis size or cheating, to find out where you stand on the particular subject, whether it matters to you, etc.
Otherwise, as everyone else has suggested, deflection.

Some people really have no self awareness and genuinely don’t think it applies to them, when it does
