Cleaner & her string of men

My cleaner usually comes with another lady. Until recently it was done to a great standard, though not perfect I was very happy with the service. It is by far not the cheapest option. Our house is not the easiest (pets, kids, old house with odd shapes), and have discussed with cleaner before hiring that would need consistency and attention to detail, was happy to pay a premium.

About 6 weeks ago the cleaner had been bringing a range of different men with her to clean. It's not so much their gender that I object to but their lack of experience, speed, attention to detail and the fact that it's a different person each week. Also with young kids in the house I am not sure just how comfortable I do feel about a different man (stranger who hasn't been working for her for a long time) coming to my house every week.

The outcome is that obviously everything takes longer and as such within the time they spend here the standard is slipping each week (though I don't mind them staying longer and me paying for that they are always in a rush). Now I know that each independent business goes through blips and that supporting a local business means taking the rough with the smooth but how long am I supposed to be ok with this for?

Am I being unreasonable to expect things to have settled back to normal within 6 weeks?

No way!! Just tell her your house insurance won't cover you for allowing all and sundry into your home!!
Request a DBS check from her and tell her straight.....
Cleaner here - wouldn't dream of bringing strangers to my jobs!
Shock

YANBU, change cleaners

gamerchick · 05/03/2020 10:34

Tell her you want to see the dbs for each employee she brings before they clean. It'll stop all that nonsense in its tracks.

Personally I'd find another cleaner.

Emptywallet · 05/03/2020 10:50

Find another cleaner.

GinDrinker00 · 05/03/2020 10:51

YANBU. I’d change cleaners and demand she shows these random cleaners are DBS checked.

KarmaStar · 05/03/2020 11:14

This is unacceptable.Unfortunately because you let it slide the first weel, then the second, she thinks you are ok with it.is she training them up in your time?
Tell her you are unhappy and it stops immediately.

KarmaStar · 05/03/2020 11:14

Week not weel.

puds11 · 05/03/2020 11:16

Has she explained why it’s happening or made you aware different people are coming in?

Thisismytimetoshine · 05/03/2020 11:21

Do you pay for two people, or is she literally just bringing randoms along to help her out?

TidyHouse2020 · 05/03/2020 11:29

No, absolutely no warning. And I am not always there when she arrives so I don't always find out. Once there was even a young ish family member.

I can't imagine that everyone has been dbs checked. I think going in from the insurance angle would be a good idea.

One week when I came home to find one of the men who had been a couple of times before cleaning alone I asked him what the problem was. He said that a couple of the usual ladies had left after Christmas.

I worry that because I have put up with it for a while she thinks I'm ok with it. I felt that given what had happened I should give her a while to sort it out but it seems to be getting worse.

I don't enjoy confrontation so was hoping it would resolve itself.

Yes I pay for 2 people

I’d be very annoyed her bringing someone into my house without discussing it with me first. I’d get rid for that.

Isthistrueor · 05/03/2020 12:02

Find a new cleaner.

dottiedodah · 05/03/2020 12:39

I would be very unhappy about that TBH! Seems very off to me .Are these "friends" of hers or do they work for her ? I would explain that its not possible from Insurance viewpoint and you have only just realised this. CF IMO !

TidyHouse2020 · 05/03/2020 20:52

Thanks everyone! I'm glad it's not just me, sounds like I have a tough conversation on my hands next week.
