Just watching this now on channel 4, very sad to see these children having such complex health problems at such a young age due to being overweight. Trying not to get angry and judge but so hard to watch without thinking ffs you're killing them!!

Oh my, It's a hard watch. Tommy's mum appears to be actively sabotaging diet and lifestyle changes. It's very sad.

louisawhitegenius · 04/03/2020 21:48

Oh my its so sad. Obesity is a multifaceted disease and its so easy to say its just too much food but totally more complicated looking at these cases. Tommy's mum is hard to watch...

I’m not watching as these kind of shows usually make me cross!
But you do need to remember that most of what is filmed is cut out entirely, and what’s left is intended to paint a picture intended to enrage the viewing public!

itwasthegintalking · 04/03/2020 21:53

I agree, far reaching issues at play here. Wonderful to see such a dynamic, multi professional approach in this instance. Needs to be a family centred approach.

louisawhitegenius · 04/03/2020 21:56

@Emmelina I totally appreciate that and as I say trying not to judge just super sad to watch. Seems to be less sensational than the other channel 5 type docs I have seen

I'm watching it now and it's infuriating!

pumpkinbump · 04/03/2020 23:11

Oh my GOD. I would absolutely slap shit out of that Tommy's mother. What a rude, ungrateful, arrogant BITCH!

Grumpasaurus · 04/03/2020 23:18

What channel is it on

louisawhitegenius · 04/03/2020 23:24

@pumpkinbump I know I felt exactly like that but she obviously has her own issues with anxiety and control - I also think she is also coming to terms with the fact that his weight issues have been caused by her and she's just realising it

I saw 15 minutes of this so may have missed something. I thought the 5 year old girl’s Mum, was very good at saying no and ensuring her food was right. It was super sad watched the girl constantly needing food.

Winterwoollies · 04/03/2020 23:32

The way Tommy’s mother spoke to the staff gave me rage. Absolute rage. She undermined everything and had no realisation that it was her doing. Almost exclusively. Obesity is, for the most part, totally preventable and it was totally the fault of the parents, who were all also obese. It was very depressing viewing.

pumpkinbump · 04/03/2020 23:58

It was her attitude and condescending tone when speaking to the professionals. If have told her to get out and take her son home. She was so damn rude, yet everything they were saying made perfect sense. Yes there are underlying issues which can cause obesity, but when it isn't, that's when I get angry, especially with people like her. If my child got to even a quarter not the size these children have I'd be looking into ger diet in detail. I'm glad they found the reason for that poor 5 year old girl.

pumpkinbump · 04/03/2020 23:59

Damn typos!
