To think this is odd?

Dps mum is lovely but a bit thoughtless insisted on showing me a frozen tier of his wedding cake.... To be fair it is stunning but his ex cheated on him and we are engaged to be married.
I get on ok with his ex and she had a new dp and baby eyc so im not threatened but i do feel that MIL is somewhat mourning the demise of her little boy's first marriage and hasn't accepted his new life.
Or am i reading too much into this?

You're reading too much into this.

malificent7 · 04/03/2020 14:37

Thought so...im just hoping she will accept me as his new wife ( i think she does really).

That is odd. But it doesn't reflect on you.

WTF is she saving it for?

Bluntness100 · 04/03/2020 14:39

Reading too much into it. If you didn’t wish to see it you should have said no, suspect you did wish to see it though.

Ponoka7 · 04/03/2020 14:42

Did you ask her why she is still saving it?

Windyatthebeach · 04/03/2020 14:43

Just let it go op..
We told mil I was pregnant..
She told me oh his ex wanted his babies!!
Confused

Bluntness100 · 04/03/2020 14:45

She likely had it in the freezer, it’s quite common to save the top layer, I think for the christening of first babies or something. Likely not sure what she should do with it, or if she should chuck it. One of those weird ones.

TheReluctantCountess · 04/03/2020 14:49

Your DP needs to tell her to chuck it away. YANBU!

Falcor40 · 04/03/2020 14:51

Meh. My husbands family have pictures of him up from his first wedding. They are good pictures of him! And I joke with them about taking it down. But it doesn’t bother me at all

Falcor40 · 04/03/2020 14:51

Just to be clear. They are only photos of him. Not him and ex wife. Lols

Conny848 · 04/03/2020 15:05

I agree it's odd, and perhaps a bit insensitive of her. But I always give people the benefit of the doubt. It is traditional to save the top tier of the wedding cake, and she could have just assumed you were curious, or maybe assumed you wanted to avoid having the same or similar cake? There are as many innocent explanations for the odd behaviour as sinister ones so I'd assume it was innocent on her part. It will be easier all round to have a good relationship with her so I would let it slide.

Sickandscared · 04/03/2020 15:24

Yeah it's odd and would irritate me. You're planning your wedding not a rerun of his first. Not sure what bluntness is on about saying you wanted to see it.

Anyway you said she's thoughtless so I would not read any malice into it. Maybe try to think up a non confrontational reply to these type of situations "well I have lots of ideas of my own" or something like that. If she continues ask your dp to have a word.
