To think a Sun journalist should not have sent me a PM because I'm on a thread?

And to ask you how to flag this up to MNHQ.

"Hello!

Hope you are really well. I am a journalist working on a story for The Sun about people who are stockpiling due to the coronavirus outbreak. I noticed in your comment you are keeping a small stockpile just in case - I wondered if you would mind giving me a little bit more info about what you have decided to stock up on, and how much you have stored?

Best wishes
Ellie"

It's against MN policy and the journalist has a bloody cheek thinking it didn't apply to her.

ViciousJackdaw · 04/03/2020 16:59

Tell her you're stockpiling fake news, poor journalism, devastated cities, media bullies and phone hacking equipment. Then tell her to fuck off.

Free Press???
Fabulous.
Free to publish all sorts of crap with absolutely no regard for facts or feelings.
Crack on...

Deelish75 · 04/03/2020 17:12

Tell her you’ve stockpiled copies of The Sun so that if you run out of toilet roll there’s still something to wipe your area with.

This could be fun.

I’m stocking up on:
Loo roll
Vodka
Condoms
Baby lotion
Hemorrhoids cream
Kippers

Frankiecandle · 04/03/2020 17:22

The journalist is not entitled to ask questions by PM on MN.

MangoFeverDream · 04/03/2020 17:35

If I really wanted to, I would contact Mumsnet directly or start a thread in the specific journalist section (which nobody ever looks at, but hey)

Lmao srsly no one actually looks at those which is why posters are being contacted via PM. At least, it probably has better hit rate.

I’m not asking you to feel sorry for the poor journos (it’s part of the job to be cheeky and find sources where you can even if it bends/breaks the rules) but you should understand why this happens.

It was a polite msg just delete get on with your life.

19lottie82 · 04/03/2020 17:36

Just ignore them...... I don’t really see what the big deal is.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 17:37

It’s not really a big deal. They were open (we assume) and there is a note to say they shouldn’t but I harm done.

subsy1 · 04/03/2020 17:42

I keep being conflicted, is Ellie a journalist (possibly freelance) or is she a staff writer for The S*n, so not an actual journalist?
Either way, ignoring the rules of MN seems pretty entitled.

CallmeAngelina · 04/03/2020 17:46

I don't understand why a journalist would need to personally message a poster, when there are hundreds of posts on here already, detailing exactly what people are stockpiling.

userlotsanumbers · 04/03/2020 17:56

Well, colour me surprised - The S*n not following the rules? YANBU for thinking that this shouldn't have happened, YABU to everyone else for describing the messenger as a journalist.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 17:56

I’m more puzzled that they bothered to try to speak to someone and not just make stuff up.

Umberta · 04/03/2020 18:02

It's so they can run a proper vox pop interview with photos of the person at home.
Karen, 49, from South Thanet, says she is stockpiling hand sanitiser because she doesn't give a shit if it runs out and everyone else has to have dirty hands. (Photo of Karen posing for the paper surrounded by loo rolls and tins of beans)

viques · 04/03/2020 18:11

Tryingtobebold

Reminds me of the Ab Fab episode when June Whitfield was using female condoms as washing up gloves.........

heartsonacake · 04/03/2020 18:26

YABU. This is a public forum. If you don’t want your comments to be taken and/or you don’t want to be contacted, don’t post.

Xyzzzzz · 04/03/2020 18:29

I’m not sure I’d admit I worked for the sun

Trunkysaurus · 04/03/2020 19:31

I'd be sending abuse to the cunt who works for that heartless rag. Fucking vermin, the lot of them.

Frankiecandle · 04/03/2020 20:56

MN have a policy that hacks don't contact us. I expect MNHQ to do something about that if they do.
