About 'destination handwashing' and phone wiping

There seems so to be a lot of advice around about washing your hands for 20 seconds but very little about when to do it!

Experts are advising that 'Destination Handwashing' (i.e. when you arrive home from work/shopping/the commute/school run etc.) is actually one of the most important times and it's one of those things that most people are not in the habit of doing!

Obviously everyone should still be washing after using the toilet, after handling rubbish, dealing with pets and before preparing food/eating but it's after train journeys, visiting shops/supermarkets and other busy places that it's most critical for preventing Coronavirus. It's also essential to wipe your mobile regularly as it is covered in microbes!

I agree. I suddenly realised today that I get the bus into work and then tend to just get on with it. I work by myself in an office so it’s not going to POISON other people with my hand bus germs, but actually I should be doing it anyway because eeeeurgh. I’m much better when I get home but only because the first thing I do is clean out the cat’s litter tray!

My habit has long been to wash my hands every time I enter my house. I swap out my shoes for house shoes too.

I always do when I come home, parents got me into the habit. I don't feel refreshed (let alone clean) otherwise - I don't want to touch my personal things at home with the hands I've just handled food packaging in shops/transport rails with! Plus I tend to eat when I get back.

I've been doing this for years. It's a good habit to get into, coronavirus or not.
