AIBU to paint my bedroom ochre/dark yellow?

DH not keen but has said I can choose whatever I like as he chose spare room colours.

I quite fancy a dark mustard yellow wall. Am I mad? Would this be hideous?

I wouldn’t, but if you like it, then do it.

My DD recently painted her bedroom in F&B Citron. It looks great and we both love it.

Sounds lovely. Looks great with green or teal, and black furniture.

SarahAndQuack · 03/03/2020 22:47

In terms of the room, I'd say it depends on space and light. If your bedroom is, say, 16 by 20 metres with enormous windows, I imagine it could look quite chic. OTOH if, like most of us, it's more like 12 by 14, it might be a wee bit oppressive.

In terms of how it'll feel to live in - remember that the colour of the wall will be reflected on your skin. If you massively fancy several years of looking at your naked DP and thinking he seems a wee bit jaundiced/bilious, then crack on.

SarahAndQuack · 03/03/2020 22:48

12 by 14 feet. Teach me to proofread.

FleabagTeabag · 03/03/2020 22:50

@SarahAndQuack sadly it's just a normal sized room. Aaagh. I'm losing the will here. Can someone choose a paint colour for me?!?!?

Ours is "honey mustard" and always feels sunny, even on grey days

RyvitaBrevis · 03/03/2020 22:52

Sounds fab to me!

I haven't tried it myself but I was tempted by F&B Print Room Yellow.

FleabagTeabag · 03/03/2020 22:53

Ooh @SomeoneElseEntirelyNow could you be bothered to post a pic?

I think it it's very light, it could work.

I don't practise what I preach - my bedroom is quite a dark green and i absolutely love it, thought it definitely does suck the light away.

I'd just try to think about the light effects. What other colours are there in the room? Eg. do you have a light floor, or can you put a light colour there?

mayandjuniper · 03/03/2020 22:54

My DC have part of their room painted in F&B Indian Yellow and it's beautiful. It does depend on the room though. Are the ceilings high? What is your furniture like? It's the sort of colour which could look amazing or terrible.

F&B Bone is a really pretty soft grey-green that looks good everywhere.

steppingout · 03/03/2020 22:54

I remember seeing a lovely Little Greene yellow.... Can't remember the name though...

Violetdaffodil · 03/03/2020 22:56

We have F & B India Yellow. I was sceptical at first but it’s gorgeous. We have loads of daylight so it doesn’t feel oppressive and at night with the lamps on it’s really cosy. And as PP said, lots of colours go with it.

LemonFrenzy · 03/03/2020 22:57

You could have one wall in it? Yellow can be quite tricky I always think. Also if you buy a tester paint an A4 size of paper with it and move it around the room at different times of day/eve with lights on to see how the colour looks.

FleabagTeabag · 03/03/2020 22:57

F&B Indian Yellow is what I was thinking. I think it's lovely. But now I'm not sure - it's just a normal bedroom in a new build house and not sure if that's more suited to a more traditional house?

F&B Print Room Yellow looks nice too though, might be better...

It completely depends on your furniture, accessories and the look you are going for. I believe you have to commit to a scheme completely. My bedroom is dark red!

Tillygetsit · 03/03/2020 23:06

I love dark bedrooms. Ours is dark teal. Get a tester pot and have a look.

RightOnTheEdge · 03/03/2020 23:06

I just Googled f&b Indian Yellow bedrooms and I think they look lovely! Smile

It's hard to tell without seeing the room but I'm all for interesting colours on walls. Anything but magnolia!

Aknifewith16blades · 04/03/2020 09:58

I have Dulux Honey Mustard in my bedroom - looks fab, would highly recommend. Really good paint too.

BestestBrownies · 04/03/2020 10:03

Would you post a pic of the room OP? You’ll get better advice then.

Personally, I love a mustard wall. Makes the room warm and cosy.

Deffo use Dulux rather than F&B. Far superior quality paint

5LeafClover · 04/03/2020 10:05

We put wallpaper up in that colour once. Sample looked lovely but a whole room was intense. Painted over it all in a cool green less than a month later.

Damntheman · 04/03/2020 11:08

OP I painted my bedroom wall ochre! The other three walls are a lighter shade of yellow and I LOVE IT. It is so cozy and nice! I think it's beautiful, go for it.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/03/2020 11:40

We have F&B day room yellow in a downstairs room. Darker and More ochre than I was expecting but I do really like it.

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 04/03/2020 11:44

We have a bedroom with two adjacent walls in a rich yellow and the other two in a creamy white. It's a north facing room but now it feels sunny all the time Smile I say go for it!
